Great Star Wars 7 news

**NOT ACTUALLY RACIST
One of the most promising pieces of news we've heard about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII ever since it was revealed last year was that the studio had hired Academy Award winning screenwriter Michael Arndt to pen the script. Sadly, however, it appears that puzzle piece is no longer in place, as its been officially announced on StarWars.com that Arndt has left the project and that J.J, Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan have taken over screenwriting duties for the project. There is no explanation in regard to why the screenwriter has left the project, but Lucasfilm president and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy is optimistic about the change, saying in a statement,

"I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script. There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production."

Part of Kasdan's "fundamental understanding," of course, comes from the fact that he penned the script for Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back as his first produced screenplay in 1980. He has also been working closely with the Star Wars franchise ever since the Walt Disney Company purchased LucasFilm and is one of the writers who is working on a spin-off Star Wars film that will be separate from the central saga. Abrams' writing credits, meanwhile, include not only multiple television series, but also movies like Super 8, Mission: Impossible III and, believe it or not, Michael Bay's Armageddon.

As a kid who grew up with Star Wars, Kasdan is the man.

Lots of rumors of **** going down behind the scenes. Abrams was rumored to have left the movie a few weeks back. supposedly real heat between Abrams and Lucas. I don't think Abrams makes it past the first movie if he even makes it that far.

Boba Fett is getting a spin off movie in 2016. Would be awesome if it was a 'heel movie'

Has There ever been a movie where the star was a bad guy that just kicked ass and no good guy stopped him?

American Psycho, No Country for Old Men, Seven (in a perverse way) and there have to be a few more I'm forgetting.

I don't think I know any of the newbies but I hope Ford gets his wish for Han Solo to die at the end. That would be awesome. I thought Peter Mayhew was pretty bad off. Guess not. I bet Billy Dee Williams is pissed.

Where did Ford say his wish was for Han to die off? I wouldn't doubt it, Abrams said this is basically a huge send off to the original heroes (Luke-Leia-Han).

Hamill has done a lot to get himself back in shape.

EDIT: I googled it and saw it was Harrison's wish to die but Lucas said no. Also saw that
Han Solo apparently has a huge important role in this next movie.

I'm sure Ford had to be promised a prominent role for him to do it. That seems to be his thing. To be fair, he is the biggest name to come from Star Wars.

Ford wanted Han to die but dead characters don't sell Action Figures. So Lucas kiboshed that.

Interesting theory I read (or saw in a documentary, don't recall which) was about the prequels, and basically they said that because of the success of Return with the hero winning at the end, the cutesie stuff, etc. beating out the darker tones of Empire. Revenge of the Sith adopted the darker tone (really to an absurd level) and I think because it was received way better than the first 2 (especially the second) that the darker tones are likely to prevail in the sequel trilogy.

Personally I think the best thing that could have happened for Star Wars would have been to Lord of the Rings it. Start out kiddy, then become more and more adult as the audience grows.

Zito , the best thing to happened to Star Wars ?

You realize it is a top 5 movie of all time. It was the highest grossing movie from 77 to whenever titanic came out.

I think it did quite well. Star Wars lost it when Kasdan left. He took Lucas's ideas and made them work.

Yes. Because selling well doesn't make for a great movie.

He's probably chillin' in Cloud City -- which is by far the coolest place in the Star Wars galaxy IMO.
