Hart: Braves 'Lethargic', Needs Changes

If he can say the Braves seemed lethargic, how can he keep the manager? The Braves are pissing me off as it's becoming more and more clear that Fredi will still be down, when it should be clear he was instrumental to this teams collapse. If we had guys who didn't want ot be out there Fredi should have benched their asses.

If the braves lose the next two games I think that would make them 77-85. No way Fredi survives that

I'm not a Fredi fan, but the blame he is getting for the team not being good is quite ridiculous. A lot more control is being put into his hands when he actually controls very little of what happens on that field. There is an illusion of control that is being attributed to Fredi right now.

No, he's not a great manager. He's like the majority of managers in baseball. There are very few that are great. There are very few that are bad. The majority are right in the middle of the bell curve.

I'm pretty sure Fredi will be gone, but there seems to be this massive disconnect from the top down (which means Schuerholz)--front office brass to the playing field--that has the team just reeling. In this environment, very few can be deemed as safe. I doubt they would trade the whole team and keep Fredi, so Fredi is likely to go.

I thought we were a team on the edge of playoff contention when the season started and we were until we totally forgot how to hit in August. I don't know where to place the blame for that. To me, it still boils down to the fact that this team is the worst in baseball at swinging-and-missing in the strike zone. Sure, they chase pitches, but if you can't hit strikes, you're not going to be a good hitting team.

I hope that is sarcasm, because Kirk is one of the few that is on the bottom end of the bell curve. I can't think of a worse manager in baseball.

From the best to the worst:

Buck Showalter > Everyone Else > Kirk Gibson

Arizona has been a bigger dumpster fire than us and Gibson has contributed to that. I agree with KB21 that in-game strategy tends to be overrated, but Gibson was supposedly notoriously bad at that.

Agree on Buck Showalter and glad to see him doing well in Baltimore.

How about leadership from the manager? Fredi has never struck me as a leader type, and I've never seen any evidence on the field that he is. Obviously I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes, but all indications are he isn't.

Add another player or prospect to Justin in a trade and we could probably get an everyday player back in return? Somebodys high. We should get a haul for just him alone. 30/100 is hard to find and we have it. So we should hold onto it. But the thinking probably is we need to dump BJ and they think his brother will be pissed about it.

I wondered about this angle when we united the Upton brothers. I agree that Justin Upton is a very good hitter and if they move him, there's a big hole in the line-up. I also agree with you that if they do trade him, it better be for a boatload of prospects along with a guy who can readily replace him as an everyday LF/RF (without the same level of production obviously).

Some pertinent comments from Hart and he reinforced one of my observations that this isn't a very athletic team.

What would be a fair trade for Justin and Gattis? Separate deals of course. 3b, Cf, Lf, and Sp would be our areas of need. Those 2 could knock out most of those by trading them.

Justin would bring in a haul but is only signed for one more year.

I believe the Cubs tried to trade for him when it was rumored Arz was shopping him. They have an abundance of IF prospects.

Gattis im not sure brings in much.

With 3B, we only need someone to platoon vs RHP, CJ rakes lefties.

He's overpaid but nothing ridiculous.

CF may have to be filled in house if they trade BJ.

Hart says we don't have a lot of team speed, but how many teams have more than 3 guys that have above average speed?

I'm starting to fear that the front office is going to do a drastic overhaul in order to put together a "better combination" of players, when all we really need is to upgrade a couple of positions.
