Int pool monies have been allocated

Braves received 4,983, 500. The penalty from Coppy Gate is still effect.

Under the previous CBA’s signing system, teams were penalized for going over their pool limits by being limited to signing players for no more than $300K. Eight teams (the Astros, A’s, Braves, Cardinals, Nationals, Padres, Reds, and White Sox) are still under this penalty for the 2018-19 international pool, though seven of them will be able to exceed the $300K once the 2019-20 int’l signing period opens on July 2, 2019. The Braves are the exception, as they still face future penalties based on their punishment for past international signing violations.

MLBTR has a complete list of teams and monies allocated.

We have signed impact guys for under 300k. I hope they spend.

Even when we get to the severe penalties we should sign guys for 10k. Albies and Altus show it’s possible a talent could be super cheap bc they are small. It’s super unlikely you get that guy but sign a bunch of talented but small guys and maybe one hits.

We should probably bundle a few 10k players together, pay them 300k max and lump them in with a stud, and they can pay the excess to the higher dollar player.

sign 15 players in the 200-300k range...which would leave us 1m or so to trade away

I'm genuinely curious to know what the Braves are looking at strategy wise here. You are shoot out of the the known top end talent, but in the past 300k has been enough to find some players. Do you go for volume here? Do you just try and find the guys you like?

Is there value in trading the money really?

1M in international money is worth more to a team without restrictions. I think we could trade that for a decent prospect or one of those tradeable draft picks.

We were told by that fat guy Ben that the Braves will be able to trade pool money for prospects better than Drew Waters.

There is nothing to worry about.

I wonder which would be better? To trade our international money and try to stock up on draft picks or to use the money to sign a bunch of unheralded prospects who you might get lucky on like Albies and Acuna? I think I would rather have the draft picks, especially if we could get like 2-3 extra ones.

International pool money will never be more valuable than it was this offseason when teams were scrambling for Ohtani money.

Take a look at the prospects teams were able to trade pool money for the last few months (not an impressive group), then dial it back a little since there is no Ohtani to bid on.

Oh my. Link?

Dude comes in trying to act like some sort of expert. Says things like Pentecost will be drafted in the R5 draft and rostered all year...he wasn’t. Made a couple other silly claims that also failed to come true.

The Braves got $1M in pool money for Ventura. That’s how little that stuff is worth. Fat Ben claimed Ventura is better than Waters, and that Ventura has proven more than any international player they could get for that $1M.

In short, he doesn’t know ****.
