Is there a nother team in baseball with a worse playoff history than us?

Perfect Cell

Lynchburg Prospect
specifically heartbreaking playoff losses? cause man ever since Smoltzie vs Morris for 10 innings its been jim leyritz and gary shefield and joey devine and infield fly rules and now this recent one. I don't think theres another team with a run like this.

Last four years:

2010 - team decimated by injuries, Bobby's last year, Brooks Conrad, horrible calls against us all series, blow game 3 in the 9th inning
2011 - the collapse
2012 - chipper's disastrous last game, the infield fly
2013 - kimbrel pitches in one game in a 4 game series, we lose game 4 in the 8th without him ever entering the game

I'd be shocked if the Braves didn't have the record for worst postseason team in baseball history. Hell, in all sports history honestly. In 23 years now of the franchise's remarkable turnaround into "respectability" and "the gold standard" for all of baseball, they've won a grand total of 1 World Series. In the past 13 years now, they've advanced to a second round of play-offs a grand total of 0 times.

Not many prognosticators were predicting the Braves to win the division. Most picked the Nats, and many had the Phillies in 2nd. So, the "rebuild on the fly" is actually ahead of schedule. Yeah, it's disappointing, but they're in the best position for the future. One of the top teams in the NL.

We'll still lose in the first round of the playoffs. Don't care what anyone says. Always happens. We just turn into another team when the lights come on. Add to that that we have a manager who's handicaps us quite a bit and we have what we have. Great regular season but terrible playoffs.

Yeah, and the best answer to that here is "trade Chris Johnson" and "trade Kimbrel."

From 1947 until 1956, the Brooklyn Dodgers were in the World Series six times and lost five. Only year they won was 1956. Difficult to compare given the differing playoff systems.

my point wasn't just nececarily record but the type of loss. these late game type stuff joey devine games. we seem to be in more of them than most

The A's under Billy Beane. He flat out said his **** didnt work in the playoffs.

Yeah...this was his exact quote.

"My **** doesn't work in the playoffs. My job is to get us to the playoffs. What happens after that is ****ing luck."

Which, to some degree is true. Not just his **** not working in the playoffs, but the playoffs being luck. Obviously not every run scored and every win is because that team got lucky, but when you take a 162 game season, then decide its champion in a series of best-of-5 and best-of-7 series, you're just asking for some ****storms.

We didn't "turn into a different team" this year, but played pretty solidly. We had been showing signs of running out of gas for a while.

Very annoyed when I read "Kimbrel pitches one game in a 4 game series".

To anyone that didn't watch the series, you'd think it was unreal.

Game 1 we were out 6-1, no need to waste Kimbrel.
Game 3 we were down 13-6, no need to waste Kimbrel.

Yeah Game 4 we can debate all day long, but everytime I read "1 game in 4", you guys make it seem much worse than it actually is.

But Donnie Baseball used his closer in a 7-run game in game 3. :pound:

But yea you're right. Abysmal starting pitching and defense in games 1 and 3 was all she wrote.

We have arguably the best pitcher in baseball - and we used him for 1.1 innings. I'm not saying he should have lot he every game, but what a waste of such a valuable weapon. Get annoyed if you want.

When your best pitcher is your closer, you've got problems.

It's why I've said we should trade him.

Closers are over valued.
