Third baseman Joe Leonard, who stalled in the minors while others in his draft class broke through, has been released by the Braves. Hit .278 at Gwinnett after .246 half-season in Mississippi.

Third round pick in 2010 from Pitt.

Also let go Cuban refugee Alejandro Piloto, who might have had the strongest throwing arm in the farm system.

Also cut was 2B Trevor Sprowl

SIGNED: LHP Jeremy Benson, OF Joe Benson (to minor league deals)

Joe is veteran, 2nd round pick in 2006 who had one partial season as pinch-hitter for Twins. Hit 10 homers for Marlins' Double-A club last year.

Jeremy isn't the 42-year-old former Yankees LHP, so there's a question.

Leonard is a big guy who could never seem to get the aluminum out of his system. There were high hopes that he would be a decent power guy given his size and strength, but it never materialized. Surprisingly good defender from what I've read.
