Marlins' Fernandez Has Elbow Strain, Placed on DL

Reigning NL Rookie of the Year and Braves nemesis Jose Fernandez has gone on the Miami Marlins' disabled list with an elbow strain. He had an MRI done in Los Angeles and has returned to Miami for further evaluation and treatment. He is coming off an uncharacteristically bad outing against the Padres (five earned runs in five innings) and reportedly was throwing up before that game. That's why news of the DL move surprised people -- they figured he was sick, not hurt. Dan Jennings has been called up in his place, and his Wednesday spot in the rotation remains TBA.

Jose Fernandez has a tear in his right throwing elbow for those that are trying to debate the injury

Harvey last year. Fernandez now. Hope they both come back to what they were before their injuries. Two of the most talented young arms I've seen in a while.

That pretty much kills the marlins season. Not gonna shed a tear for them, only the yankees deserve to win less than that franchise.

Would suck if he does have to get TJ.

One of my favorites to watch.

Wow, poor Fernandez. As a baseball fan, this is awful. I loved watching the guy pitch (when it's not against us lol). Such a good pitcher... good for the game. Hopefully he comes back strong next year. The marlins weren't going far in my opinion this year, but they're done now.

Did anyone see the Roundtable Discussion of experts on why there are so many pitchers going down so often. Didn't see the entire show but I especially was intrigued by 2 points brought up by Jim Kaat and John Smoltz.

Smoltzs point was too often when you have a youngster at a real young age that has a good arm, coaches pigeonhole that youngster and overuses him, and the parents oblique because hey little Johnny is dominant. That youngster develops bad habits and overthrows as he gets older as that's what he was taught and try to keep up with standards. In his mind too many coaches at that age group aren't focusing on fundamentals and solid repeatable mechanics and more importantly muscle memory. And once someone is that good at that age, that's all they do, they aren't introduced to other sports or positions.

Kaats idea was gradually introduce youngsters to elevated mound. Start em out on flat ground, develop solid mechanics and muscle memory, and gradually increase in increments to elevated mound.

BTW, everytime I see this title on the main page, I keep reading the title as "Marlins Fernandez has Elbow Macaroni" and I imagine it's better news about a pasta loving pitcher.

Perhaps a good meal would be the thing.
