How does the FO narrative change if each of Folty/Newc/Wisler become major league starters?

Wisler still needs to figure out how to put guys away. In those last 5 starts he's only striking out about 5.5 per 9. Overall in AAA he's at 6.29.

That backs up what we've seen watching him. He can get ahead of hitters but struggles getting the K. If he can figure out how to finish off hitters then he's a very valuable pitcher. He's got everything else. But that's a big hurdle.

It's all gonna come down to his changeup I think. He gets hammered against lefties, rocking a 6.03 career FIP against them in the majors (611 BF). Career 3.87 FIP against righties (603 BF). If he can get his changeup working to even average levels against LHH, enough to get that down to even a 4.5-4.75 FIP, he becomes at least a back-end starter.

Wisler deserves one more chance because he's actually shown flashes in the majors. Blair just hasn't even though I think Blair has better raw stuff. Unfortunately, Wisler needs to improve against lefties and he needs to limit the fly balls. Especially in our new stadium... fly balls and lefties = disaster as we've seen.

Huh. I wonder what the average FIP for the better matchup for pitchers usually is? I'm wondering whether if he would need to be a good bit better than 3.87 against righties to have a great deal of success.

Who is he going to replace? Unless they go with a 6 man rotation.

This year for example Folty has a 3.95 FIP against righties and 5.35 against lefties. I would say Wisler has to figure a way to get lefties out. Once he does that to a degree he could be serviceable. Otherwise teams would load up on lefties when possible.

If Garcia would stop sucking then they should trade him. Then Wisler, Blair or Sims should get a shot based on all of the stuff the front office knows about these guys.

I think Wisler just goes with Jace on our all AAAA team. Coppy kills the AAAA guys.

If we weren't pretending to be good I'd have no shame in moving Dickey to the long man. With multiple young guys I let Dickey pitch the 6-7 of every game.

I like dickey as an innings eater all year in the roatation. 200+ innings of his production is very valuable over 162. I'm glad we have that option on him.

I go mostly by strikeout and walk rates. To me Sims is ahead of Wisler.

Sims 9.6 K per nine and 3.1 BB per nine

Wisler 6.3 and 2.2

I'm ok with those two battling it out for the 5th spot next spring. The loser goes to AAA and in all likelihood still gets a fair number of major league starts.

Either or would be the right decision. Need to find out if the fifth starter is coming from outside the organization next year

I actually wonder if he can be a starter. He has the repitore for it IMO.

Uh wut? He's 30 and hasn't started a game in his entire professional career (minors or majors). He's listed as 5' 11" and 170 pounds. He has more than 2 pitches, but there is no way he would have the stamina to start.

I'm not saying we should do it or that he can. I'm just curious is all.

IMO we have to make some big decisions in the off season. Sims, Wisler and Blair will be sitting on the 40 man. We will be looking at making a big time trade for a TOR and/or 3B. I think we need to know more about Sims, Wisler and Blair so they need to play the last part of the year. We know what Dickey is.
