MINORS FINAL 7/22: Curcio (leg) out 6-8 weeks

The 2014 draft class has had its first real setback. Outfielder Keith Curcio, the Braves' 6th round pick out of Florida Southern, has been lost for 6-8 weeks with a fractured lower leg. The injury game July 5, while playing for Rome.

Curcio, a lefty hitter, was hitting his stride quickly. He began his career at Danville, where he hit a modest .259 with four RBIs in eight games, plus some nice defense, before moving up to Rome. There, he was hitting .316 through seven games before he was injured with a home run and five RBIs. He had a homer and double and three runs scored in the last game before he was hurt.

Nice thing about broken bones, though -- they heal, so the kid should be back on track in time for instructional league/winter ball, if not sooner.

Many thanks to NIck Pierce, Danville radio announcer, for passing this along.

Braxton Davidson had his best day as a pro today, on base his first three trips (single, double, walk). I think everyone felt it would just be a matter of time, and once he found the strike zone, he could be quite a find.

Thanks for the info. I saw that Curcio had gone on the 60-day disabled list and wondered what had happened. He was off to a nice start.

Connor Lien was mentioned the other day and we may need to start talking a little about Connor Oliver. He's put together a nice little season in Rome, especially given that he wasn't even on the radar when the season started.

Lien, Oliver, Sanchez, Black and Livesay have all picked it up this year. Livesay has been out for about a month but had gotten off to a strong start in Danville. They're all about 20. Toolsy type outfielders. All except Sanchez have shown an ability to play both center and corner outfield. They can all steal a base. It will be interesting to track this group.
