In the minor leagues, some days, some games are far more significant that others. Tuesday had several of those games.
From top to bottom, Gwinnett's extra-inning loss to Norfolk had Sean Gilmartin deliver six huge innings (two hits, seven strikeouts, one run), meaning two of his three outings since his return have been overpowering. In his second and final rehab game, Dan Uggla had a home run, a single and two strikeouts to seemingly be ready to return. Not all that sure I don't want to have a few more days of Elliott Johnson – whose postgame interview Tuesday was one of the all-time greatest.
Big doings in Lynchburg, where both Josh Elander and Trenton Moses have broken through their early struggles. Elander, .420 over his last 10 games, went 5-for-5 Tuesday. Moses has hit .
350 over his last 10 games. Navery Moore worked a perfect inning in his first outing since coming off the DL and, most importantly, Ryan Hinson won his fourth game with the Hillcats to lower his ERA to a tiny 2.14.
Hinson, a big lefty out of Clemson, was 7-2, 1.53 at Wichita in the A.A. Before the Braves spirited him away. He won 20 games in 2011-12, also with Wichita.
In Rome, Lucas Sims earned his 11th win as Jose Peraza drove in four runs and Kyle Wren continued to shine like the crown jewel in the draft. Sims, Jadovsky and Chaffee combined to strike out 14.
--------------------
Gary Moran was selected Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 19-25. Moran went 1-0 and did not allow a run in two games, one start, while giving up just four hits in eight innings pitched.
Moran, 28, is 3-2 with a 3.71 ERA in 12 games (six starts) with the M-Braves this season. He started the year with the M-Braves and made two starts before being placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Moran rejoined the M-Braves in early July and has bounced between the bullpen and the starting rotation.
A native of Madera, CA, the right-handed pitcher was signed as a free agent by the Atlanta Braves on June 7, 2011.He claimed the 2012 Southern League ERA Title and was selected as a 2012 Southern League Mid-Season All-Star. Moran finished the 2012 season with the second-best ERA (2.91) and the fifth-most strikeouts (117) in the Atlanta Braves organization.

The Mississippi Braves closed out the home portion of the regular-season Tuesday night at Trustmark Park, finishing the season with the largest total attendance since the 2008 season. The M-Braves plated an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Stars 4-3.

After Jacksonville lost to Montgomery 8-6 and Mobile dropped a 4-2 contest in Tennessee, the M-Braves enter the final five games tied with the Suns for the Southern League South Division lead. Mississippi (36-28, 74-60) scored four runs on nine hits while Huntsville (27-38, 56-77) plated three runs on six hits and an error.

In the bottom of the eighth, Salcedo singled and moved to second on a Martinez sacrifice bunt. Robby Hefflinger then reached on a fielder's choice. Hector Gomez tried to cut down Salcedo at second but an errant throw allowed Salcedo to come around and score, giving the M-Braves a 4-3 advantage on the error.
