Director of Minor League Reports
The buzz about Wes Parsons has turned into out-loud discussion about the Braves' latest free agent phenom.
Signed following the 2012 draft, Parsons was nurtured through instructional league, then extended spring training before making his professional debut the latter part of May. The Clarksville, Tenn., native, a product of Jackson State CC and the Thunder Bay (Ont.)Border Cats was placed immediately in the Rome rotation.
Two strong winning outings in early June first drew attention to Parsons' quality stuff, but going ito August, he was still only 3-6, albeit with a sub-3.00 ERA But he followed a nine-inning complete game two-hitter last Sunday with Friday's seven-inning, two-hit winning effort. For his two August starts, both wins, Parsons was 2-0 worked 16 innings, allowing four hits, no runs, no walks and 15 strikeouts.
Parsons is approaching 90 innings in his first pro season, but he's holding hitters to a .219 average for the season.

With a double in Friday's game, Mississippi's Christian Bethancourt extended his streak of 35 consecutive games reaching base. He's three games shy of Willie Cabrera's M-Braves record 38 games, set during the 2009 season.
