MLB Network Spitballing deal for Blackmon

In a roundtable panel discussion, the MLB Network experts kicked around the following deal.

Rockies Trades Georgia Tech grad and Gwinnett native Charlie Blackmon and reliever Scott Oberg to the Braves for Ender Inciarte and two top pitcher prospects.

Blackmon is signed through 2021 with 2022 and 23 player option, Oberg under control until 2022.
Blackmon is owed in 2020:$21M, 21:$21M, 22:$21M player option, 23:$10M player option
2023 option may increase by $8M to $18M.

Oberg is 5-1, 1.62 pitching in Colorado (3 saves), four homers allowed in 50 innings.

Would you cough up Anderson and Wright in this deal? My gut says hell yes. Inciarte in Colorado would be a perfect fit and it offsets Blackmon contract.

Blackmon is a horrible defender . He didn't crack 3 fWAR last year and won't this year either. So that's a hard no for Ender plus two top tier pitching prospects.

Not to mention the fact that he has a .700 point gap between his home OPS and his away OPS. I want absolutely zero part of Blackmon, even if he and his contract were given to us for free.

I'm not too concerned about that. Coors hitters are never as bad as their road splits say there are. But his 352 xWOBA is all we really need to know. He's an above average hitter that can't play defense. No thanks.

The feedback I get elsewhere says that Oberg is very a guy we'd like. His numbers back it up.

Oberg is good but I wouldn't give up Wright and Anderson for him. IMO Ender and Blackmon are pretty much a wash.

I usually agree with most of your posts but no way Ender is equal to Blackman.
I understand defensively it’s one sided but no way he couldn’t be an adequate corner outfielder.
And offensively they are in a different universe.
I wouldn’t do the proposed deal but I’d give up Ender and Wright and maybe a 40-45 for Charlie.

I may be in the minority but I still value Ender as a high 2 WAR player. I don't think most people realize how bad Blackmon will regress coming out of Coors. His xWOBA the last two years is ~350 which is above average to good but it's nothing special. That with bad defense will probably net you around a ~2+ WAR player. Then you have to factor in that Blackmon is going to make over 20 million annually the next 3 years.

The contract is the issue more than anything else. Was strange move for Rockies when they did it I thought. Maybe necessary to get arenado re-upped.

Good dh candidate for big market al team.
