Our New Beeches, the Seattle Mariners; or, thank you Mr. Povse

Consider these offseason deals with the Seattle Mariners, who are the best thing to happen to Copo and Co. since Dave Stewart was shown the door.

On November 28th, the Braves sent Max Povse, and recent acquisition from the Mets, Rob Whalen for "outfield prospect" Alex Jackson and a PTBNL. Left-hander Tyler Pike was sent to the Braves on Dec. 9 as the player to be named.

Alex Jackson (with Florida)

.295-10-25 in 30 games Defensively, in 13 games as CATCHER, has made four errors, thrown out seven of 25 base stealers (28 percent). OPS of .905. BTW, he's 21 years old.

Tyler Pike (with Florida)

3-1, 2.29; 39.1 IP, 26 H, 14 BB, 45 K in seven starts. Age: 23

Povse: 3-1, 3.51 in AA

Whalen 2 starts, 8 IP (4.50). On DL entire month of April with Mariners, shut down with shouldler inflammation -- the same problem that ended his 2016 season. Activated and sent down May 1.

On January 11, Braves traded Mallex Smith and Shae Simmons to Mariners for lefty Luiz Gohara and lefty reliever Thomas Burrows.

Luiz Gohara (with Florida)

3-0, 1.69; 32 IP, 28 H, 7 BB, 30 K in 6 starts. Age: 20.

Thomas Burrows (with Rome)

2-2, 2.70, 1 save; 8 games 13.1 IP, 12 H, 6 BB, 12 K Age: 22

Mallex Smith (with Charlotte 2 games, Durham 6 games, Tampa Bay 8 games)

With Tampa: .273-0-0, 3-3 SB; minors .286-0-2, 3-3 SB

Shae Simmons (on 60-day disabled list, right flexor strain)

Had not realized Simmons went back on the gurney. Pretty amazing short sample return, though.

Yeah, I think many of us (including me)...did not like seeing Mallex and Povse go. So far ...both trades are slam dunks. Coppy has really done some his best work on smaller trades (besides the Shelby trade).

Gohara and Jackson have been 2 of the biggest bright spots in the minors so far. Both are huge trades for Coppy. Hopefully he can pull off something similar and get us a competitive balance pick back.

Great thread. These trades have been spectacular so far. Could flip in the future but you can't help but love these two deals at this time.

I was all for the trade. Just felt like the Braves needed to gamble. So far...really good. I'm hoping Alex continues to hit and the pitchers do well. I only miss Povse but felt he was replaceable. Coppy deserves some flak...but I love these types of trades

I'm really on board with the Jackson trade. It looks like an absolute win. I hope everything keeps working out, but he's killing it!

Both trades always made a lot of sense for us. We were both dealing from a position of strength and trading floor for ceiling. It's really hard to argue with the logic of the deals, let alone the results.

I really loved Povse, but I was perfectly happy gambling on a high ceiling bat when we had so few in the orginazation. I think we had some inside knowledge on Jackson also.

Dont let chipchildress see this... Povse was the next Roger Clemens.... what's funny is the PTBNL is turning into a better pitcher than Povse let alone Jackson turning into the most legit power prospect we've seen in a while with improving defense. But sure chipchildress... worst trade of all time for us
