Pat Corrales passes away at 82.

The Tariff King

Trade War Deadline Winner

Braves longtime Secretary of Defense for a good bulk of the Cox regime, eventually leaving to go to the Nationals and replaced by Chino Cadahia.

Pat Corales has the distinction for being the only manager ever fired mid season while in first place back in 1983 (his Phillies won the World Series that year).

Miss ya Pat. Soft spot in my heart for those 90’s Bobby Cox staffs

Corales was one of those Baseball Guys I grew up with, even though I knew nothing about him. Corales was always just there, sitting with Bobby and Leo. I didn't know about his managerial history or anything else -- I'd just turn on TBS, watch the Braves, and there would be bench coach Pat Corales, there every day for 16 years.

Ah, the good old days. Old-fashioned bench-clearing brawl instigated by Corrales when managing the Indians. Former Brave Julio Franco also featured, though obliquely.

RIP. He always struck me as someone who would kick someone's ass if it needed doing.

Old school! Topps 1965 All-Rookie Team!

The Bench Coach of my youth. RIP.

And to extend that note re knowing nothing about the guy during my youth: "He was the first major league manager of Mexican American descent." Fun, and pretty prestigious, fact I didn't realize belonged to his bio.
