Playoff odds according to Fangraphs

I look at this like firing a college football coach for underperforming and then replacing him with someone on his staff. There may be individuals who could do a better job, but it does nothing to correct the culture. For whatever reason guys aren't playing anywhere near their potential under the current group. They really haven't under Snitker for any length of time with the exception of post-ASB in 2021 and 2022 and the 2023 regular season.
I agree with you, but the 1992 Tennessee Vols and 2003 Clemsons replaced coaches with current staff and got a truck load better immediately with national title success soon following - so it can be done, but it’s rare.

Well, that’s just not true. They certainly did in 2018, 2019, and 2020(if you count that). Not that I think it had anything to do with Snitker.
the team was vastly different in 18/19/20 even. Riley didn't have a full season until 21, Ozuna wasn't a Brave until '20, 1b is new, C is new, CF is new, LF is new, SS is new... The guys who probably liked twit are gone.. I doubt the latin contingent like him and the white boys are all transplants that probably laugh at him behind his back

comparing football and baseball coaches is sort of useless. Baseball managers typically are more game planning and situational moves.. far easier than a football coach.. literally AI could handle a baseball manager's job right now, without much input..

Phillies from girardi to Thompson

Not really. I mean, AI could handle the strategic decisions better than most managers, sure. But managing the clubhouse is also a major part of the job. Snitker was good at that early on, but for whatever reason he seems to have lost the one positive skill that he brought to the job.

Pretending that you simply cannot have an open field for the manager spot if you fire Snitker now is so, so dumb. If you end up going with Perez and win the WS, then fuck it and keep him, who cares at that point. Anything short of that and you can make clear to everyone that matters that it will be an open field for 2026.

Coaches lose locker rooms all the time.

Miss state fired lemonis (the college version of snit), and we got on a hot streak and made the tourney. The interim (Parker) hasn't even been considered, and now we're about to hire Brian O'Connor from Virginia (hr hire). If our AD can do this strategy and AA can't, maybe it's an AA problem.

Right, I understand what *usually* happens in these situations, but acting as if it’s mandated, or that the players will unequivocally demand the interim be retained is very likely untrue.

I’m not one to blame managers and want them fired but my god the guy said he wasn’t watching a play and that’s on top of the dumb things we see every game. He’s lost, disinterested, admittedly not paying attention. How can you retain that guy and just say fuck it, we’ll eat another year.

It's not like it can get worse if Snit is fired.
The argument is that the team is bound to start playing better regardless and that if they fire Snitker and that happens, the interim will need to be kept. I just don’t think that’s true if you, you know, use your words like a big boy and tell the other big boys the deal.

I doubt that's how it would play out unless the team were to win the WS. And at that point who would really care.

This is the correct take on the situation. Snit always had negative tactical value, but he supposedly offset it with "leadership" value. Now he's purely negative.

The only way letting Weiss or Perez take over is if the players truly dislike Snit at the helm, and removing him motivates them to play better. The only way to find that would be a sit-down between AA and guys like Olson, Riley and Albies to get a truthful sense of the clubhouse attitude.

I wonder what Acuna thinks
