Expects Yuge Games
A common refrain in recent years has been that we have a lopsided farm system. Strong in pitching but lacking in position prospects. I think we'll look back on 2014 as the year when the pendulum began to swing back the other way. Some of the key developments:
1) At the top of the pyramid stands Jose Peraza. The Leprechaun has had a tremendous season and will likely be ranked among the top 50 of minor league prospects when the lists come out after this season. He offers the team the means to erase its weaknesses at the top of the lineup and at either third or center.
2) A significant part of the improvement is due to strong play by position players taken in the last two drafts. Caratini and Wren from the 2013 draft. Davidson, Dykstra, Edgerton and Godfrey from the 2014 draft.
3) The international scouting department has also made a significant contribution in recent years. Ozahaino Albies, "The Great Oz" has had a sensational stateside debut. Victor Reyes and Yohan Camargo made strong stateside debuts last year and have continued to progress this year.
4) A variety of mid-tier prospects who have been in the system a while have turned in very strong seasons. While none of them have taken a step into elite territory, it is not farfetched to think that several of them could be significant contributors at the major league level. This group includes Castro, Kubitza, Elmer Reyes, Gosselin.
5) Last but not least Tommy La Stella has made a very smooth transition in taking over second at the major league level.
