Rising offense?

For the past week or two, it seems like the offense is starting to come alive. Heyward has came alive the past week or two and I think he is the key. I don't feel like looking up stats but just from observation I think our offense might finally stop sucking but it also could just be a flash in the pan

People tend to forget at times the pure potential JUp has (and he's still only 26) and that Jason is just 25. Jason is already a really good player, but he's going to be even better moving forward. He just knows the game and does everything. There is no doubt in my mind his power is going to show up again, he has too much. Gattis was in a prolonged slump after coming off the DL. It seems no two of our guys have been going at the same time, and sometimes it was zero. Having BJ leading off didn't help at all, either. Heyward, Freeman, Gattis, and Upton as your 4 best hitters is not bad at all, even with the guys around them bringing them down most of the season. This team has room to hit its stride IMO. It hasn't really at any point yet.

Doesn't hurt that we stopped putting an automatic out at the very top of the order. Now we just need to fix the 2 spot and stop hitting CJ 5th and we'll really start putting some quality ab's together at the top.

We all advocated for Jason to be the leadoff guy... when he is, the team just goes. Well, he's leading off and we are doing great.

Fredi probably cost us about 10 wins. Seriously.

As a Fredi supporter, i never liked that.

I do wonder how many games BJ in leadoff did cost us....

Isn't it sad that all of us fans knew it was a terrible idea to have BJ so high and all wanted Heyward higher, and it took Fredi how long to comply?

I've been championing Jason, Justin, Freddie at 1,2,3 since the start of last year. I called BJ at the top this year as moronic but he spent most of the year at 1 or 2. I called Simmons at 1 or 2 dumb and it's still true.

Our lineup should be

Heyward
Justin
Freddie
Gattis
TLS
Johnson
Simmons
P
Bossman

or

Jason
TLS
Justin
Freddie
Gattis
Johnson
Simmons
P
Bossman

To me BJ needs to prove he's worth while to hit higher than 9th.

He likely has cost us a number close to that when you combine such with being a butcher at bullpen management, etc. A certain poster here thinks it's crazy I believe that we could be six or seven games better with Bochy managing us, yet by your count we'd be even better than that since he wouldn't have had BJ leading off so much like Fredi. I also see Bochy going to our shut down relievers for the 8th and 9th last night, at least after the leadoff man reached. So add another game to my six or seven number there. I really doubt hardly anyone would've kept BJ up top as long as Fredi did, though there are a number of bad managers in MLB so who knows.

BTW, I know Simmons hit a homer tonight (off a terrible pitcher) but I also thought it was crazy batting him second the last Pittsburgh game. Quite frankly playing him at all was probably not wise since he kept falling down the game before due to his hip issue. Plus add that to his recent ankle issue and playing with a bad shoulder and I'd gave him the night off that last game of the Pittsburgh series. But if he plays you sure don't bat him so high when he's clearly not 100%. That's just stupid despite Simmons past success in the two hole.

If BJ has to start then he should be 9th. He is probably a better hitter than the pitcher but I just want him to feel insulted.

We're paying the guy $15m this year and the next three and Fredi was trying to see if he could get him going. For a while, it worked a little bit. When it stopped, he gave it a bit then pulled him.

Fredi's got to use the resources he's got. If it were up to me, he'd have never had to deal with this guy. But since he does, he was giving it a good shot. Perfectly understandable.

BJ doesn't make enough contact. It's that simple. Until that changes, he needs to hit eighth, since I'm fairly certain we're not going to eat $50m - or put $50m on the pine.

I'm usually in agreement with you but not this time. BJ is awful and the fact that it took until August to put Heyward back in the leadoff spot is unforgivable. This man should not be the manager.

Trying to get an individual going while hurting the team in the process. Yeah that's a great way to run a team...into the ground.

Every team has games they should have won but didnt.

And won games they should have lost.

I can see 5-6 games better, mainly due to BJ at leadoff which is moronic.

And Wood was dealing, letting him pitch to the next batter was fine even though it didnt work out. Maybe if the offense scored more than 2 runs, they wouldnt be in that predictament. Let me guess that's Fredi's fault too, right?
