Russia is the last multinational empire still standing.
In academia there is a large cottage industry dedicated to the study of imperialism and imperial powers. Interestingly, this cottage industry has had little to say about the imperial project that has been Russia. This makes it all the more refreshing to see an analysis undertaken from that perspective.
