Samardjiza (sp?)

A few months ago there was discussion that the Braves may be interested in him. Does anyone know if that's still the case?

On the surface, I like the idea of picking up a guy with a power arm and a little bit of attitude. He strikes me as a guy that McDowell could develop. Of course, it depends on what we'd have to give the Cubs in return.

Any other thoughts or insights?

Would love to get him and it appears he will be dealt sooner, rather than later but DOB, Bowman or one of the beat guys said that we are no longer after him.

I also don't think we have the money to take him on this year.

My recollection is that the Cubs wanted Heyward or Justin Upton in exchange. I think he could be a good mid-season pickup if the price drops and we have need for starting pitching.

That was exactly the case. The reason neither Samardzija or Price was dealt is because the asking price on both was through the roof.

Not at the price they wanted.

He's a very good pitcher, would basically be like adding another Minor, Medlen, or Julio level of player (about 3 fWAR) but I wouldn't go bonkers over him. I'd give them a good player, not involve guys like Sims at all.

Yeah, they want the kitchen sink and more for him.

Would like him but not for Heyward/JUp/Sims who they want for him.

Note, not all 3 but they wanted one of them i believe.
