The #Braves announced right-handed reliever Shae Simmons underwent Tommy John surgery today.

Hart: "Look, when you look at the evaulation and where we are at, it's a no brainer to get it out of the way, and project for the future look of the team. In the short term, look, you feel bad for a guy like Shae but we fully expect him to be fully recovered and strong by the start of 2016 and at full strength going into the new stadium, during which he will undergo a name change to Turner, Turner Simmons is going to be look, one of the best, if not the best reliever in the game, besides a number of other relievers, including our own Kimbrel who may or may not be part of the team going forward, although rest assured he is going nowhere, we fully plan, and look, to acquire the necessary pieces to build around him. Who that guy is, I don't know, but we got him."

This is incredible. About everything that could go wrong for this team, has. Well, hopefully he comes back strong. This is effin annoying. Maybe that's the reason for some of these signings.

I guess we understand why they were scrambling for so many bullpen options now. Thats a shame because Shae really looked like he could be a long term piece.

HURRY! Trade Kimbrel.

Jose Veras chances of making our bullpen just went up to near lock status. He was probably signed with Simmons pending TJS in mind too.

Tough break for Shae. It's a position of depth, but Shae looked to be one of the best options from the RH side. I was kind of baffled on why Veras decided to sign with us given our BP depth, but I'm guessing Hart / Coppy gave his agent a heads up that we had an unexpected injury.

Yea or otherwise made it clear that we have an opening. That would likely suffice.

Has there been any organization that has had the run of misfortune with Tommy John Surgery as the Braves have had?

No, not that I have noticed. Some others have been hit hard by it along with other injuries though. But we seem to be leading MLB in TJS for some of our better pitchers in recent years.

Bowman believes this makes Veras among the leading candidates to set-up for us:

W/ Simmons out of the picture, Jason Grilli and NRI Jose Veras seem to be the top setup candidates for the #Braves.

Capps will surprise everyone, he'll fire one 92 mph and then fire another fastball 80 mph causing the batter to swing too early. Capps can get some good separation on his fastballs. :)
