Acuna's power?
Iso way down.
2020: .331
2021: .313
2022: .154

Matzek k rate and bb rate?
Matzek velocity down from last year, but same as it was in 2020 when he was very successful

Acuña isn’t the only elite hitter who’s down this year. And up until a couple weeks ago, he was still better than most.

I think Matzek may just still be a bit worn down from the stretch late last year and has been slow to ramp back up.

Acuña, I suspect, is trying way too hard from an offensive standpoint.

I'm not worried about Ronnie. His injury was legit and he's still hitting the piss out of the ball. He just needs to make adjustments.

I'm also not worried about Matzek so this decline seems to be more legit than Ronnie. His first appearance featured a velocity around 92-94 and he was 93-95 last night and touched 96. Give him some time to build up.

Acuna is slumping and he's slumped before and he'll slump again. Something's mechanically wrong, he'll get it fixed.

Matzek looks like he's building up. If he's at 93 on 8/1 we got a problem. But I don't think he's got major issues either.

Acuna, much like Olson, isn't lifting the ball for whatever reason right now. His 2022 launch angle of 11.4 is quite a bit below his 14.6 career mark, and way below his 20/21 value of 18+. It is entirely possible we've already seen peak Acuna at the ages of 22/23, but I doubt it. More likely he's struggling a bit coming back from a reconstructed knee and getting fully healthy and in game shape. If he's healthy at the end of the year 2022 is a success.

Matzek...who knows. BP arms are volatile and fall off the cliff unexpectedly all the time. He was always a guy we should be enjoying while we get to have him.

I would say no to both. Starting with Matzek it still looked liked he was shaking off some rust last night but that going 2 innings helped him work through some things. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him lock in real soon.

Acuña is not gonna be the 8 WAR player we’d all been hoping for this year but there’s a good chance he’ll provide us between 3-4 WAR which coming off ACL surgery is pretty good. I’d expect to see the Acuña of old next year.

NO, NO

Both will get back to form in short order and then I will mock you all endlessly.. or I will completely forget about this and never mention it again.

Nothing would make me happier than these 2 regain form. I'll take the mocking in stride, although I didn't really say they wouldn't bounce back

Acuna: Absolutely not worried

Matzek: Not too worried, but would like to see the velocity get up a bit again. I’m hoping it’s a case of building strength up again.
