I think he refuses to play 3B and didn't play it well when he did. So no, I don't see where he fits.

If Freeman gets hurt for any extended time, the season is done anyway. For a short time, they could bring up Riley or Ruiz who would likely play a better defensive 1B than Hanley. Riley might beat him offensively as well.
