Haha, I guess Arctic Region Cross-Checker didn't suit him.
Man... sucks for him.
Probably not quite cut out for an MLB job and Longenhangen came in and ate his lunch while he was away. You have to think he would have stayed in baseball if he could instead of taking a demotion at his old job.
With that said, I always liked Kiley. Glad to see him back in the public sphere.
My guess is that Fangraphs is going to pay him pretty decently and that either he or Longenhagen will move on to a new role within a year.
Longenhagen is the best at what he does in the public sphere. It would be a shame if Kiley comes in trying to throw his MLB experience around and creates tension.
I wonder if the delay in FG putting out their prospect lists is related to waiting for Kiley to come back on board. It would be a shame.
Well for now it's just going to be a great situation for the readers, as we'll have two outstanding prospect guys putting out free content.
I suppose we will give Kiley the benefit of the doubt despite the fact he is no longer employed by a MLB team, and worked for a FO that was largely incompetent and overvalued pitching prospects.
To be fair to Kiley, he likely had zero influence on the overall decision making. He likely just provided recommendations to specific players. I highly doubt he was involved with strategy. In fact I remember one time Coppy told Jonah Keri on a podcast that Kiley was scouting players in New Zealand. This sounds like a guy that was extremely marginalized.
This board in general always overreached with Kiley’s role with the team.

We don't even really know if he failed at what he was doing or if it was due to the Coppy connection one way or the other. But I'm not even really concerned with his time with the Braves, because I am able to remember that Kiley was fantastic at what he did at Fangraphs. It's hard to overstate the leap that was made in prospect coverage when he took over for Eno.

Then why did no other team pick him up? Going from an MLB team to a writing gig at FG is not a promotion.
Kiley McDaniel was Coppolella's light-weight drinking buddy who threw up all over the team van at the Winter Meetings, according to Jeff Wren.
