some unintended consequences of trumpism

…The Measles showed up and spread amongst the wrong people. Herd immunity isn’t a switch that magically turns on and off based on small changes in figures. Sometimes you just get unlucky. You could even be right that an increase in undocumented immigrants caused this outbreak, but it would have been less likely to happen in a location with a higher vaccination rate.

But then its not the vaccination rates that were the driver - It was a policy change of brining in illegals (taht is what they are based on our laws) that we have no clue how sick they are from their lands.

That doesn’t follow from what we’ve discussed. It means the vaccination rates might not have been the sole cause of the outbreak, but that’s it and that’s not news. It still might have been the primary driver of the outbreak, though.

A reasonable person would not assume that the principal driver of an outbreak is a CONSISTENT vaccination rate for a long period of time but would look tot he radical changes in the demographic makeup of a population. Especially when they are home to countries that still have these types of outbreaks more consistently.

But there hasn’t been a radical change in Gaines County’s demographics either. But no, it would not be inherently reasonable to ignore the vaccination rate when it comes to outbreaks of the disease that vaccine fights. You should also look at other changes, but they were at greater risk due to the decisions of the residents of that county.

There hasn't been a radical change in what? The citizen population? I wonder what else might contribute to the demographic makeup....

This “unreported” demographic change is unique to Gaines County, Texas? Sounds like Biden has the border well under control!

Like you said - Its a rare occurrence so anything that tips the scales. There were other outbreaks of odd diseases as well this past year for cities that 'welcomed' migrants.

A shoe I've been waiting to fall. Makes a lot of strategic sense for both Turkey and the EU.

Erdogan has his flaws but he is very shrewd in his geopolitical instincts.
