I figured it might be, as Charlie Brown once famously said, "Tell your statistics to shut up." But there are some numbers put up by the Braves that are at least worth a nod of the head.
1) Shocked to see Freddie Freeman's 43 doubles are second-best in the NL next to Lucroy of the Brewers (53!).
More discouraged to see Freddie's 144 Ks -- but that doesn't even put him in the top 10 of this hitting-stupid league.
Ryan Howard (189) leads it;
BJ and Justin are 4-5 at 173-171;
Chris Johnson cracked the top 10 at 158, good for 8th!
Justin is in a three-way tie for third in homers at 29 and also ranks third in RBIs
Freeman's 174 hits currently have him in a tie for 7th, but three hits today (he's starting) could move him to 4th
Freeman's 90 walks rate third in the league; Carpenter led with 95.
Freeman has topped 600 at-bats for the season
Pitching-wise, Alex Wood is 9th in ERA at 2.78. He ended up with a reasonable 172 innings this season.
Teheran's 221 innings rank behind only Cueto (236) and Wainright (227).
Last night's save pushed Kimbrel past Rosenthal for the NL lead at 46.
For the year, Kimbrel worked in 62 games, but only 61 innings.
Carpenter worked 60 innings, Walden (who was hurt part of the time) worked only 50 innings
DEFENSE
Freeman was as good as we thought; he was second in the NL (5 errors, .996), only one pct. point behind Morneau, who is my pick for Comeback Player.
Simmons wound up with 14 errors at SS this year, twice as many as Rollins
***Chris Johnson wound up tied for the best fielding percentage in the league at third with McGehee (.978); he made only six errors, but he had a hand only 18 DPs, to McGehee's 32.
Gattis threw out only 13 of 63 base stealers; Laird threw out 11 of 41, Bethancourt 5 of 15.
***Heyward only one error in in 375 total chances, (nine assists), second only to Venable's 1.000 (only 255 TC)...Should be a Gold Glove lock
BJ: seven errors
Justin: eight errors, most of any NL outfielder
***Harang and Teheran both had perfect fielding pct. this year (1.000)
