Shewmake's numbers are brutal, but I think he's starting to get it going. Did we change his swing or something? How did this guy go to just horrible for such a long stretch?

Langeliers ops at 1000 as a 23 yo I’m aa.

Starting to dream

Spencer Strider (our 4th round pick from last year) is on fire too. Reportedly, throwing upper 90's with sharp break. We may have found an absolute steal here. It's early, but he's moved way up my prospect list so far.

FWIW, FG has moved him up to a 50 ahead of both Harris and Contreras. He's effectively a Top 100 guy for them now.

I'm guessing we see this young duo full time next year.

Nice.
I still think the Braves are pretty good at drafting. But for some reason they seem to be much worse at the first round then they are at the other rounds. Or maybe it's just expectations vs production.

If SL can be a top defensive catcher and post an OPS above 750, that is a boardline star. It took Realmuto several years, IIRC, before he cracked 800.

He and Contreras would be pretty good. NO, neither hits well enough to play DH for a good team.

I expect there to be a labor disruption and a 100 game season next year. If not for that I would say it wouldn't shock me if they played AJax as the back up to contreras to manipulate SL's service time and put two years of control between the two guys. I would.

It was a reshuffling of the entire Top 100, and he was the only guy worth moving. They just released the update today.

Surprised Harris wasn't up to a 50. I'm not ready to call him right handed Acuna or Acuna-lite like some people.

But I thought his performance in the spring and so far at his age shows he's a prospect with real value.

Also surprised Pache didn't drop 5 given how horrid he looked.

One of FG's guys said there are some plate discipline issues concerns with Harris, and they have made it well known they are starting to grade those types of prospects down more than they used to since they fail so often at the MLB level. A guy like Javy Baez is the poster child for overrated toolsy guy with a terrible approach at the plate severely limiting his value, and it was apparent very early.

They said they have been undervaluing "pitchability lefties" and overvaluing "toolsy guys with swing decision concerns", and they are now consciously correcting for it.

Thus far Adley R. has only been slightly better than Langeliers with the bat and from the scouting reports I remember, Shea is the better defensive prospect. Shea better fly up some boards. Could end up being a great couple of catchers in the first round that year.

That just seems like a really strange change in philosophy and it seems to ignore other traits. Yes Waters and Harris have plate discipline issues, but their other traits are so good that barring injuries, it seems likely that their floor is a 4th OF. A "pitchability lefty" likely has a fairly low ceiling to begin with and comes with the same injury risks as any other pitcher. I'll take 1 Waters over 10 Kolby Allard's all day.

It's still early and he's only had three starts (out of thirteen games in which he's pitched), but Allard has done fairly well. Don't get me wrong. I do the Allard-for-Martin swap every day of the week, but I always thought the Braves grossly mishandled Allard by pushing him up the system as quickly as they did.

As for Waters and Harris. I think there are more red flags with Waters than Harris (who is in his first full season, so almost all judgements are premature), but I think they will both play in the big leagues and may do well. I just think Waters' K-rate for a guy who hasn't shown that much power to this point is troublesome.
