I don't believe Islam (or Christianity, for that matter) is "our" enemy. I think ontological perversion—ideologies gnarled by fear and hate of the other—is our enemy.

Both points are worth making.

While plenty IS-affiliated twitter accounts have celebrated (which is common with any tragedy in the US or Europe, irrespective of culpability), there have so far been no substantive links to IS nor any other findings regarding the maniac's motives.

Likewise, what could've been done? Stop celebrating Bastille Day?

Fwiw I said Islamism deserves mocking. I don't think Islam deserves mocking, but I do think it deserves scrutiny, just like christianity deserves scrutiny.

If only it had been a "U Haul free zone". You can ban all the guns you want but your just going to make criminals out of half the people that dont hand them over and you still wont be able to stop a nut job from killing a **** load of people. Theres nothing we can do to stop all of this. Religious terrorism has been going on since the dawn of time.

They already were in a state of emergency; that state of emergency, which was due to expire in a few days, has simply been extended another three months.
