Tyler Collins was the only high school position player the Braves picked in the first 10 rounds, and the 18-year-old Texan is showing early signs he was well worth going nearly $300 K over slot to sign him.
The lefty leadoff hitter, judged as having a "plus" bat and speed and potentially plus power, is hitting .400 after his 2-for-3 day Thursday that included a triple and three stolen bases. In 11 complex games leading up to today, he's 14-for-35 with a pair of doubles and triples and 8-of-10 stolen bases. He's playing center field in the complex games but might have more of a left-field arm.
He was an Oklahoma State commit, making Collins a major "get."
