January 2nd:

1977: Team owner Ted Turner is suspended by Commissioner Bowie Kuhn on tampering charges in the signing of Gary Matthews. While suspended, he pursues another goal, winning the America’s Cup sailing race, which he does in September.
 
January 4th:

1902: Bill Dineen, who averaged 18 wins for the Beaneaters the last two seasons, signs a deal with the crosstown Boston Americans of the upstart American League.
 
January 5th:

2010: The Braves agree to terms on a one year deal with Troy Glaus, which includes incentives. He would play first base for the team.
 
January 6th:

1937: The Bees acquire shortstop Tommy Thevenow from the Giants. He would never play for the team.

1997: Phil Niekro is elected to the Hall of Fame.
 
January 5th:

2010: The Braves agree to terms on a one year deal with Troy Glaus, which includes incentives. He would play first base for the team.

And end up starting a game-saving double play in game two of the LDS, while playing third base in an emergency situation.
 
January 8th:

1916: James Gaffney sells the Braves to Harvard baseball coach Percy Haughton and businessman Arthur Chamberlain Wise For $500,000.

2014: Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine are elected to the Hall of Fame.
 
January 12th:

1981: The Braves sign future Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry to a one year deal worth $300,000. He would go 8-9 with a 3.96 ERA.
 
January 14th:

1976: WTCG-TV owner Ted Turner purchases the Atlanta Braves for $12 million.

2008: The Braves acquire Mark Kotsay from the A’s for pitcher Joey Devine and a pitching prospect.

2015: The Braves trade Evan Gattis and prospect James Hoyt to the Astros for prospects Mike Foltynewicz, Rio Ruiz, and Andrew Thurman.
 
January 15th:

2002: The Braves acquire Gary Sheffield from the Dodgers for Brian Jordan, Odalis Perez, and a prospect.

2009: The Braves sign pitcher Derek Lowe to a four year deal worth $60 million.
