Danville roster:

Not a lot of excitement besides Jenista and Riley from the draft class. I'm intrigued by Matt Rowland. We spent on him out of high school in the 2016 draft but the he got hurt and hasn't pitched since.

Seems like the Danville excitement usually comes from the guys who immediately tear up the GCL the first few weeks... seems to always be a fairly blah team to start the season.

I've been curious about Rowland for a long while. He was the 11th rounder for Braves in the pitching year (directly before the two Brandon Whites) and signed significantly over slot out of high school.

I think he must have had surgery or something because at one point his twitter touted his returning to the mound last year, I think.

Look forward to seeing what he is all about, if anything at this point.

Jenista listed as a 1B.

I guess they can play him a lot of places, but that perhaps is suggestive.

There’s apparently a 16-year-old on our GCL roster named Christian Zamora, and he has two hits today so far. Color me intrigued.

Juan Soto is #1.

#2) Drew Waters- CF, Rome (Braves) A fast bat with premium exit velos paired with steller up the middle defense. Left handed he’s a terrific young hitter and definitely deserving of the #2 spot, by a pretty good margin. . But I was having a long debate over 2-4 because I have yet to see Waters hit from the right side yet. In the end I let it ride but they might be in a different order on the end of season top 50.

#4) William Contreras- Catcher, Rome (Braves) See above, it’s very close a slight lean toward the power. (55-55)

#11) Jean Carlos Encarnacion- 3B, Rome (Braves) Long, lean and wiry. Impressive exit velo’s. The tools are a little on the raw side and loud, I’m tempted to put 60 raw on him right now. He’s very aggressive in the box and he’ll lunge at the ball on occasion. But he actually displays very good bat to ball skills, I’ve watched him spoil some tough benders. It’s possible the hit gets to 55+ if he starts working his way into hitters counts and keeps his feet below him. Defensively he’s solid at 3B, good hands and 1st step. 55 arm. He seems to double and triple pump a lot, trying to find the ball (small hands?) . A little aggressive here but I like him.

I'm getting Jordan Schafer vibes from Waters. Hopefully he doesn't flame out like Jordan did.

Speaking of Schafer, according to MLBTR he has been released by the Giants today as he has returned to try to resume his career as a pitcher after undergoing TJ.

I don't see any similarities in Waters and Schafer at all. They aren't even remotely the same player other than they are both white and play in the OF
