Uggla To Continue to See Less Time at 2B - Release Considered

Not exactly a platoon since Pastornicky started against Samardzija and Jackson, both righties. I do think Pastornicky should start against most lefties, since Pena can't hit them and Uggla has reverse splits for his career.

Found this for Uggla -

Thought it might help him adjust to his new role.

I'm a little surprised how suddenly Uggla's playing time has diminished. Even after 2 years of sucking it still feels sudden. Perhaps Uggla is now victim to the very patience that has kept him in the lineup so long. If they are going to give Pastornicky a chance, they have to really give him lots of continuous playing time, not just a game here and there.

They shouldn't bury Uggla. He's had success against a couple of the pitchers that we might face in the Brewers series. I'd like to see him get a game or two in that series.

I admire the Braves for giving him another shot after the playoffs last season Actually I admire Uggla after the playoffs last season.

No matter what you think of his performance -- the man has handled himself professionally and the team has paid him every respect it could until it was obvious to all ....
That's baseball

Kinda crazy idea. Wonder if Uggla would consider early retirement. Obviously we'd have to incentivize it where he'd still get his money but basically pay him to be a coach. I do think he's got a future as a coach of some sort. But he would basically have to admit he can't play baseball anymore which I see being the bigger problem.

Uggla can travel with the team, amortize his salary like we did for Hampton and Ken Griffey Jr, or was it Bonilla that's getting paid still by the Mets?

He can be the guy that pitcher's use in simulated batting practice when they're coming back.

Confidence IS an important step in recovery.

His unproductive ABs and double-clutch on the throw to the plate yesterday combined with the sudden stockpiling of IFs at Gwinnett HAVE to mean he's close to being released.

I wouldn't too much into that trade at Gwinnett. They never did replace Tyler Greene after they traded him last month. He's his replacement. I wouldn't expect a move with Uggla and LaStella until June 1st because of Super 2 status.

I don't think the move will be made in order to promote La Stella necessarily, just that his performance yesterday has to have him as close to the edge as he's been - Gosselin is an option assuming you're right. I just don't think the organization feels he can contribute at all with his bat at this point and they can't afford to have him out there if he's going to cost you games with his defense.

I personally don't think La Stella's potential Super Two status concerns the organization at all - Peraza will be the 2B long before La Stella's owed significant salary.

Dan needs to be released.....I don't want him anywhere near this team or Fredi/Laird might be tempted to use him.

I am pretty much to the point that I believe we need a bench shake up with both Uggla and Schafer to go. I'd prefer trading Uggla for anything we can get to save a little cash but I think it's too late for that. If so Wren needs to just put away his pride and release Uggla now because he's not turning it around, IMO.
