We Lost A Good One Recently

I doubt that many on this board know anyone else on this board, so it's hard to say who knows who. But on the off chance any of you in the Atlanta/Dalton area know or ever met Jerry Davis, he passed away April 5 at the age of 71.

I met Jerry during the baseball card boom because he, as an elementary school principal, scheduled card shows to help raise money for the school athletic teams. He always drew plenty of tables and I met Clay Carroll at one of the shows. He and I shared a wonderfully obscure Braves passion -- we collected the tough team-issued cards that were sponsored by the various hot dog concessionaires (Dubuque, Lykes, Bryan). Our last get-together, I traded him some Braves team photo sets (also a team giveaway) in return for the one Bryan Braves card he still had that I needed. It was a lop-sided trade, but it made Jerry (who has been in stage whatever cancer for two years) happy, so I enjoyed it, too.

Jerry had a streak of attending spring training camps for something like 27 years, and he was already packed to go this spring when he took a turn for the worse. He got out of the hospital, but four days later he was gone.

Miss you, man.
