What if the DH goes away

Has anyone here on the forum considered the what ifs should the DH become a major factor in next CBA. Not as a standard for both leagues but rather such a strong negotiating tool that it goes away completely. Baseball would be flooded with 1B and LFs all of a sudden.

Just wondering but if the DH was a success across the NL like the Braves experienced and the AL favors the DH why is Manfred so slow in putting it out there for 2021?
 
Because DHs get paid a lot, and MLB doesn't want 15 more high paying roster spots without the MLBPA giving up something in return. The DH isn't going away...

MLB wants more playoff games in exchange for the DH, but the MLBPA is smart enough to realize that's not a fair trade considering how much money owners get from expanded playoffs.

It's simply about what these negotiations are always about....$$$$
 
That is my point. Negotiations and money always has a winning and a losing side. But, if a work stoppage occurs the owners, all being super wealthy are better positioned to survive and especially if they have prepared for revenue loss.
So Manfred says; We can live without the extended playoffs but we can put more money in our pockets if we dont have to pay a Stanton, Cabrera, Ozuna, Martinez et al.
Clark says; We can live without the DH but the other 24/25 players on the team need work.
Who gives in?

The problem is they hate each other and don't trust each other. Therefore they cannot and will not agree to this.

MLB wants the DH to be viewed as a concession on their part in the new CBA. So they cannot be seen and asking for it the year before. It's all about a horrible labor negotiation that is going to potentially kill all of 2022. Wasting a great year in our contention year. Wasting a year of Acuna should be a crime against baseball.
 
A year ago I probably would agree without thought. Today since I dont give a crap what the Cleveland teams nickname is when there are entire ethnicities out there with bigger problems/issues. But for the sake of discussion here only since MLB Tonite hasnt asked my opinion. The 3 batter rule, the 7 inning double headers and the runner on 2nd in the 10th inning are much more viable than the DH as it sets today. Reasons are: DH costs money to the owners. The 7 inning double headers are more likely to give the players a scheduled day off. The 3 batter rule may or may not save a pitcher for the next game. The runner on 2nd will in all likelyhood shorten extra inning games. The last 3 all benefit all players on the active roster.

that's why part of me was saying just scrap all of this 2020 season and get the new cba done now

This is the important part of the equation at the end of the day.

If the owners were "smart" there would be no negotiation - or even discussion except amongst the players - just lay it out as their choice to make. Tell them that there's going to be ONE SET OF RULES for the game. There are enough fans who like the double-switches and perceived strategy of the game with Pitchers hitting that they wish the DH would go away altogether, and the most ridiculous thing in all of sports is that you have half the league playing by different rules. This is not a CBA issue - it's a rules issue. The owners should just simplify the entire argument by stating that there are going to be 30 DHs or NO DHs because there is going to be one set of rules, then let the players choose which set of rules they want to play by.

The players' side is making a terrible tactical mistake by not pointing out that the "concession" the owners receive with the universal DH is that they never again have to worry that the highest-paid (in general) players in the game - Pitchers - will miss time because they were out there trying to prove what great "athletes" they are while doing something they're not getting paid to do. The added expense of 15 extra DH jobs is a relatively inexpensive insurance policy against having the best arms in the game constantly hobbled because of a mild ankle twist or ever-so-strained hamstring leading them to tweak their deliveries and blowing out earlier in their careers because of that. The owners don't pay Team Doctors, clubhouse managers, or bat boys to manage the bullpen, why in the *ell do they want to pay Pitchers to hit? Tell the owners that you're OK if they do away with 15 DH jobs - you just hope they don't mind paying all those expensive guaranteed contracts while Pitching Coaches and Managers baby Pitchers while they're on the shelf (and missing starts) recovering from minor injuries because they're trying so hard to avoid a major injury.

We have a better chance of getting an additional DH we can use at any position we want than we do of losing the DH we have.
