#6 GROVER RESINGER

Coach

What came before:
Resinger was ripped out of the hands of the St.Louis Cardinals, a native son for whom he had worked in numerous roles off and on since breaking into baseball in 1934, most recently winning back-to-back minor league championships in 1i962-63 and narrowly missing a third.

Braves manager Bobby Bragan was allowed to add one coach of his choosing before the season, and Resinger earned that distinction.

That 1966 season: Blinked and you might have missed him. Resinger was hand-picked by Bobby Bragan for the '66 coaching staff, whereas Billy Hitchcock was promoted by the Braves to the bigs. When Bragan was fired, Resinger quit out of loyalty, (replaced y-9never to be seen again in a Braves uniform.

What happened next: But the Braves gave Resinger his long-awaited chance in the majors. The career minor league would go on to spend 1967-68 with the Cubs, 69-70 with the Tigers and 75-76 with the Angels, and worked those teams' minor leagues in between major league assignments.

Retiring from the field, he remained a valued instructor until he passed away, in his beloved St. Louis, in 1986 at age 70.
