Does he a) deserve to stay up in place of Adonis and b) will be stay up when Adonis is ready?

I see no reason not to implement a Rio/Adonis platoon at 3b for the rest of this season.
I'm ok with trying a platoon...might be a cheap way to improve production at third
I know the numbers against LHP aren't good, but I'd rather watch Ruiz try to figure them out than have to watch Adonis play. We know Adonis sucks. Give Rio the chance vs lefties and see what happens. I don't see a downside to it.
I don't think there's gonna be a lot of dissent on this question.
I think Ruiz can develop into a solid second-tier player. May need to be a bit more aggressive early in counts, but that type of knowledge isn't developed overnight. I say put him at 3B for an extended stretch. Send Bonifacio packing and, while we're at it, have Boni pack a steamer trunk in which Colon will fit.
Not to hijack, but here's how we will move Colon at the deadline.

What I like about Rio is he really shows you all he can. And compared to Adonis, it's like he's dancing out there on the sand.

Because Adonis is good...if used properly.
Giving him 400 PAs per year vs RHers is not using him properly. Batting him 2nd is not using him properly. Leaving him in defensively late in games is not using him properly.
Leveraging his .310/.362/.476 (.839 OPS) line vs LHers is using him properly. Using him in the bottom half of the lineup is using him properly. Replacing him defensively after he gets 3 ABs is using him properly.
Rio had a ~.300 platoon advantage the last 2 years. If the Braves are truly interested in being as good as possible, they will limit his PAs against LHers.

First off Adonis is hardly good. The sample of him vs. LH is pretty small and he wasn't super strong either (125 career wRC+) but even then we're dealing with 210 PA.
What we know about Garcia is his minor league stats are mediocre, and he's 32. Rio should get PA. You'd have a point if we had anything to play for, but right now all we have to play for is figuring out what we have in players, and giving players time to develop. Rio may never hit LHP, but why not give him looks against LHP in the majors? What harm comes from it?
