For the first time in alll the years that folksa round here have been clamoring for silly trade ideas to get a TOR guy, this id the first year where...

    1. The Braves are actually in position to win NOW
    2. The Braves don't have a top position prospect like Swanson/Albies/Acuna another team can demand
    3. The Braves have plenty of cash to absorb the entire contract

I'm not saying it's likely, but now it's plausible.

We all love the prospects, but it's important to realize just how risky the ones of the pitching variety are. Even if the trade hurts now, chances are they won't come back to bite the Braves too badly.

You guys have been saying silly stuff like this for a couple weeks now. All those comments about the Phils running away with the division were emotionally charged silliness, and now the Braves are right there after the Phils have cooled off.

The Braves can still beat the Phils with their current roster.

Why does irrationality have to reign supreme on this board?

As I have said on Archer, unless the Rays are valuing him as an ace I get that deal done. Based on what we've heard Mark Bowman say among other things, my guess is they might be trying to offer Gohara+. Probably a 3 player deal.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

posters give up on the team/players over one AB.
being down 2.5 games is sky-falling territory for them.

Oh if we can do this with just our pitching and catching prospects, I'll be happy (provided a couple names are left off). I just really don't want to have to deal from our higher echelon position players like Riley, Pache, or Waters. If the news comes down that we got this done with Fried, Anderson, Wentz, and Contreras/Cumberland I'll be fine with that.

Phils may get Wilson Ramos. Would be a big upgrade for their offense and allow them to push Alfaro to the bench, also a big upgrade.

Or Gohara. I'd be fine with him too, I'm just not sure the Rays value him too highly

Rosenthal: Sources: #Brewers, #Braves, #Pirates all strongly in mix for Archer, with #Dodgers and others potentially lurking. If bidding is indeed as furious as it sounds, the #Rays have played this exactly right, taking it to the last day, trying to extract maximum value.

We are also strongly in mix for Harvey, apparently.

kill me for it, but if the Rays value Riley very highly, I send him in the deal with a face-smiley.

Bryce Wilson called up to Gwinnett. Possible trade for another starter? Or just move as another player is coming up, like Touki.

The Rays could have had Gohara a few months ago, and took Mallex instead.

They tend to value sure things, and Gohara is...not that.

Harvey was also on my list as cheap depth starters to replace McCarthy as the 5th man. But i thought we had some bad blood with him for some reason.

Based on what we saw yesterday, I do believe that Wilson to AAA probably means another starting pitcher from that rotation is leaving soon in a trade, just hopefully not Toussaint/Wright (seems like it's not though).

Wilson has dominated lately after a couple rough outings in AA but he's 20 and not a former collegian so I wouldn't be in a rush with him.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.
