5 to life? How the **** do you get a law passed with that insane of a sentencing? Also really glad we're applying the resources of this great nation to busting the ever dangerous pot brownie baking scam. 1.5 pounds, way to go law enforcement really keeping the world safe.

He won't get that much time. What the kid was doing is illegal and he knew that.

'Pot brownie' is stretching since that wasn't any 'pot brownies'

This is really one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen. I don't even know how drug war supporters could defend the logic of case. Basically, in the eyes of Texas law, if you have one gram of marijuana, it's considered one gram of marijuana...but if you dilute that one gram of marijuana into 499 grams of brownie mix/eggs/sugar/etc, the law in Texas considers you to now be in possession of 500 grams of marijuana. Instead of a slap on the wrist, you're staring at life in prison for the same amount of ******* drugs!

Ah, the logic that keeps these types of BS cases happening. Instead of defending a fellow citizen over something completely absurd, let's defend the absurd law.

So you believe in individual liberty when it comes to drugs, but not ACA... Just keeping track.

[JOKE] And Texas is a state that hates the Common Core math standards. 1 = 500. Hmmmm. That explains some things. [JOKE]

I can't speak for Zito, but I think there's an overwhelming societal interest in ensuring that all people have access to affordable health care. Enough to mandate HC coverage, in fact.

I don't think there's an overwhelming societal interest in rigorously enforcing dumb laws about recreational drugs.

So, yeah, that's not quite the intellectual twist-up that you seem to think it is.

It was in response to yeezus, but the societal desires mean nothing to actual freedom aspect of either topic.

Oh, and the ACA doesn't provide "access" any more than it was accessible before. The only thing it does is force you to find it.

This, universal or no healthcare. The system before stank and the new system is just the system before with mandates and birth control.

Not really. There is extended medicaid coverage not before seen. Problem is the poorest in the south aren't going to get any help because of the GOP Governors.

Problem for them, better for everyone else.

Obamacare sucks. It's terrible, just admit it. Sure it could be worse. But just leaving things the way they were wouldn't work, why would holding a fine over people to keep things the way they were work?

You guys realize he didn't get charged for pot right?

He got busted and charged with hash Brownies. Throw in the wad of cash he had on him and individual baggies, he should be lucky he didn't get charged with Distro with Intent to sell.

Hash is illegal in every state. Kid knew that. Kid knew what he was doing was illegal.

I dunno...1 = 500 sounds like a possible answer using Common Core math methods

That doesn't make it a good law. As a taxpayer, I don't see the utility in the government spending tens of thousands of dollars a year (for the next 50-60 years?) to lock up some guy making hash brownies.

Aces and I don't agree on all that much these days but he's spot on here. Yeah he broke a law, but 5 years???? I have just spent the last 3 days in Tyler TX seeing my granddaughter and I saw enough absolute bullsh!t lies in political ads between 2 ads for 2 Repubs running for something (LT Gov I think) that it made me literally sick to my stomach. The Repubs wonder why they can't win an election, even with a populace with their head so far up their arses I'm surprised they don't die from oxygen deprivation (and remember I live in OK, ground zero for dumbass Repubs) who supposedly spent $300,000 when they claim we don't have the money to help people with health care issues. If we could just gather up every politician and throw them in the ocean we'd be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better off as a nation.

Now to show my age again, I remember back when Krgrecw and I used to agree on stuff, but he would of course have to agree on this sentence because......well you all know.

Hash is marijuana. If you can read, the absurdity isn't that he's being charged (though marijuana being illegal is absurd) but that he could be facing life for ****ing pot brownies.

Read it again. He can be charged so much time because there was Hash involved. The state can weigh the brownies as a whole because the hash is a cooking oil. He's not being charged because of Pot it's hash, which still isn't fully legal in states that have legalized weed. Hash is Pot like whiskey is beer.

Realistically he won't do anymore than a year or two which he should do for hash. Even in states that have legalized pot he'd be in trouble.
