FWIW, O'Brien said Sims was completely dominant and scouts clocked him at 94-98.

He really has a chance to break camp as the 5th starter.

I haven't nearly seen Sims enough to make a logical conclusion, but I've been reading some scouting reports and despite the velocity they rate his fastball as average so I'm wondering if someone that has seen him on a more regular basis than me if that is true or not. I do know I really like his secondary stuff, especially his curveball, and if he ever harnesses his stuff and be able to control it consistantly then we have a keeper on our hands that could be ready soon. I just hope this is not another Kyle Davies type situation, not that Kyle threw as hard, but never materialized into a legit MLB starter because his fastball was too straight despite having good velocity (and a lack of control of secondary pitches didn't exactly help him either. Same, I guess could be said for Jason Marquis and a number of other pitchers.

His FB graded as a 55/60 by Kiley McDaniel this past year when he was sitting at 91-94. If he's pumping 94-98 and has similar movement, that FV on that fastball should go up a tick.

From what I've read, he's getting movement. I've seen more than one person describe his stuff in the AFL as filthy.

Sims is apparently starting the AFL All Star Game for the West Division.
