Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Is there any team set up for current and long term success more than the braves? If so, there aren't many... I'll trust AA who was instrumental in getting us in this position.

How long is long-term? I agree on the short-term prospects, but there is absolutely zero offensive depth in the upper minors right now.

Braves lose the offseason pennant race every year, and every year, the Braves are doomed here by some

Lmao. Nobody said that. If you choose not to believe another Frontline starter is needed that's cool, but people can differ on how to get the ultimate prize while taking nothing away from AA.

Braves play the lottery every year. If they win the title good. That’s why they dont win often. You build a team and add those extra piece to have a real chance.

Our window is closing and if we don’t sign or trade for a number 3 the window is going to close fast.

Fried is leaving and after next year we have basically Strider.

Signing players to these insane contracts never works out. AA builds the team in the best way possible without making any stupid long-term reprecussions. Next offseason is when AA might have to make one of those kinda moves in a trade or in FA. But as of now, this team is set up as good or better than any team going forward. Just because they dont win the WS every year means he should sign players to crazy deals.

There's no science to winning in the playoffs.

Considering we have C, 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, CF, and tbd on Kelenic for at least the next 4-5 years. And Arcia for another 3. Our position player depth is bad but the core is basically locked up for AA to build the farm system up.

Right now Ozuna have some value and he is 33 years old. I doubt that he match this last season. Trade Ozuna for any prospects and add Teoscar Hernandez. Hernandez play some LF and DH. Maybe overpay for Hernandez this year and save some money for the following years.

I do agree we need a 3rd starter. Mostly for the playoffs, but if AA doesnt feel he can get someone for the value he sees then oh well. See how the regular season goes and reconsider it at the deadline, but may cost more then with a buyers market. Although i do agree with Scheff, i'm just not sure if AA would spend this much on the bullpen and on bad contracts (even if it's just for a year) if he couldnt get another starter when we need one.

There is no set way to win a WS. A prime example is this year and ours 2 seasons ago. Basically the way to win is get in the playoffs and pray you get hot

Yeah, Texas basically had Eovaldi, Monty and mix and matched the other 2 games. We do need a 3rd starter. But we had Strider vs Suarez/bullpen games, and couldnt hit for **** while holding them to 3 runs both games. Having a better 3rd SP wouldnt have helped vs Philly, the bats being MIA was why we lost.

It also helps to not start Bryce “All Star” Elder is you want to win in the playoffs. The easiest way to ensure that doesn’t happen is to have pitchers that are better than him available to pitch. The best way to ensure that is to have pitchers who aren’t old and/or injury prone. Luckily for the Braves, a few such pitchers are still available.

This illogical thought process being battered around that just because the known weakness of the team isn’t the reason 2 games were lost, and therefore somehow isn’t important, is baffling to read.

It's become apparent to me that AA is planning on having a pen to unleash on teams in the postseason. Hopefully he (or whoever managed) the dodger series in 2021 takes over the postseason this year

It's important we upgrade over Elder, for sure. And to have someone incase Charlie just hits old age next year. Wont even argue that fact.

I agree he plans to greatly shorten games in October, and I agree it can help cover games when they have to start Bryce Elder.

The other option is to build enough SP depth to not have to start Bruce Elder.

Maybe he sees AJSS or waldrep doing just that, and if they don't, he will address it at the deadline. We haven't even gotten to ST yet, so stressing on who starts game 3 in the playoffs seems premature

This is a team who threw $55M at the BP, and something like $23M at a lottery ticket in LF. I find those facts hard to reconcile with the thought Bryce Elder and a BP arm, or AAAA fodder, will be relied upon as the 4 and 5 SPs.

AA must have another move up his sleeve.

Really? Because it seems like the exact same thing was said at last deadline, and again right now. How did that all work out?
