It's completely fair. The purpose of the business is to make money.
The purpose of professional teams, for the most part, is to build wealth and/or pad your ego. How much money you make on an individual season is pretty far down the list. It's important to an extent, but it's mostly a long term investment. As I said before, these owners are flipping professional sports franchises for several times what they bought it for.

Atlanta general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Saturday that Bryce Elder will compete with AJ Smith-Shawver and Reynaldo Lopez for the final spot in Atlanta’s rotation.
Going into the offseason, it appeared that Elder had the leg up on the fifth spot in the Braves rotation, but with the acquisition of Chris Sale and signing Reynaldo Lopez, he will now have to earn his spot this spring. The 24-year-old posted a 2.97 ERA in the first half of 2023 but faltered in the second half and finished with a 3.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 128/63 K/BB ratio across 174 2/3 innings.
Apparently, the Braves will sign Jose Perdomo, the No. 3 international prospect, when the signing period opens on Jan. 15.

Been long rumored to sign him, would be huge for the system. Does he project at SS or 2B?
I had a mouth breather today tell me that the “Braves roster is solid, but saying it’s top-5 is insane… it’s not even close to the Dodgers, Astros, Phillies, etc. The last two years have been mainly a fluke - they’re a 95 win team at best.” I know the guy and he’s totally serious. lol
Twitter truly is a cesspool.
Twitter is horrible. Followed closely by reddit and facebook.

AA in an interview stated there were 4 locks in the rotation. Fried, Strider, Sale, and Morton. I thought it was interesting he didn't consider Elder a lock to start the season in the rotation.
Just seems crazy to have a 24 year old SP with a 3.66 ERA in his first 40 starts coming off an all star selection not even guaranteed a 5th spot in the rotation. He would have to really blow it to not get the spot imo just because Lopez helps more in the pen and AJSS/Waldrep need to have their service time considered.
