Working out our roster

I would do it, but the Braves won't. But a fringe contender who really need a starter ought to do it. MKE. SAN. SFO. BOS. He's an asshole, but he's not a criminal (she is). And there are assholes all over baseball.

True, but not every asshole is a serial tweeter who tosses out whatever is on his mind. He would have to go to a place with a big personality manager.

I keep wondering about Fletcher and his $6M salary in AAA. If he is not going to start the season on the 26 man roster, does he have enough value to bring back the 4th OF you guys are clamoring for?

If they've decided they'd rather have Guillormé, they might as well send Fletcher and $4m somewhere for a fourth outfielder.

I don't think that's what the team has decided at all. Basically Fletcher was taken off the 40 man cause nobody would claim him and he's a couple days of service time away from being able to declare FA if sent to the minors without forfeiting his money. Guillorme is on a major league deal and is out of options. Basically once Fletcher is on the roster he's on the roster. I imagine Guillorme starts as the single game backup and if there's a long term injury Fletcher is called up to either platoon with Guillorme or take over. Gives the team maximum flexibility and nobody misses out on any money.

I read the plan for Fletcher may be to play everyday in AAA to stay sharp in case he has to fill in for Arcia long term or becomes valuable to a contender who loses their everyday SS.

We've made some big moves so far both on the 26 and the 40 man roster. I thought it'd be a good idea to keep a full list of who we're protecting goes where so we can figure out what spots are still left to fill.

I do think that makes some sense, given the rate the Braves play their regular / don’t play their reserves. Not sure if Fletcher ultimately accrues any trade value, but he’s more likely to do so playing regularly at AAA than playing once a month in MLB.

AA talked up Guillorme quite a bit. Sounds like a good chance he's the backup IF'er. Also said the way the regulars play, they may just roll Kelenic vs LHP's, so thats why a RH platoon guy isnt signed. If so, basically means they roll with the regulars and rotate TDA/Murphy. With the occasional day off here and there. Dont love it but it is what it is.

Universal DH and the need for relief pitchers has shortened benches and how they are constructed. Longer benches usually allowed for a couple of platoon spots and handedness could play a bigger role instead of positional need. Just less flexibility now. Braves are lucky in that they don't have to look to the bench much (as long as they are injury-free).

I'm just guessing, but I think Guillorme is on the team and I'm still thinking Wall or Martinez as the back-up CF with another RHH of unspecified position filling out the bench. A hot spring training probably determines who gets that last spot. I wondered why they kept Luke Williams around, but he might make sense provided he shows he can hit.

As for the options issue. I don't think it matters for the NRI guys as they've signed minor league contracts. Some of those contracts provide for an opt-out in the event the player doesn't go north. I think Perdomo makes the team and immediately goes on the 60-day DL. Johnson and Guillorme make the team and I don't think the prospect of losing Stephens wears on anyone's mind.

I think the team tries to pass Perdomo through waivers instead of burning a whole year of service time. Johnson and Guillorme make the team for sure. Stephens likely makes the team too. The organization has been keeping him around for a reason.

As for the NRI guys the list covers anyone we could lose if we decide not to add them to the 26 man roster. The NRI players with options could be added to the roster and then optioned if the team wanted to keep them around.

Apropos of nothing, but Perdomo is a ridiculously huge man. He's listed at 6'8, 265 pounds, which is basically LeBron size.

Could be on Perdomo, but I would venture he wouldn't make it through waivers. A non-contender probably claims him as a wild card for 2025 and just puts him on the 60-day.

Last two bench spots are still up for grabs but I'm assuming Wall will get ABs everyday in AAA at this point. This leaves us with 39/40 roster spots filled.

Did a big update of the roster. Pitching wise it looks like barring an implosion Giles is getting the open pitching spot and Lee and Kerr are competing to fill in for Matzek if needed. Elder AJSS and Waldrep are competing for the 6th starter spot.

As for the hitters I have White and Williams in the lead for the last 2 bench spots. I don't see any way we carry a 3rd catcher. I don't see Alvarez Waddell or Fletcher starting the year in Atlanta for various reasons and I think Wall and Martinez may get everyday ABs in AAA to start the year.

Edit: Actually after further thought I could see Tromp making the roster. If the last man on the bench is never going to play then why not use the spot to free up TDA/Murphy for PH duties
