Official Spring Training Thread

Obviously, Acuna staying healthy is more important for the team than him trying to steal bases in ST. Hopefully we can get him to understand that.

However, it's easy to see that Acuna genuinely loves playing the game this way. Asking him to tone it down in the regular season maybe isn't something you do to your international superstar. Maybe you just sit back and enjoy the show that is Ronald Acuna Jr. for as long as we have him.

Remember when Strider and everyone said he didn't need a curveball because the Fastball-Slider combo was close enough on the same plane that he didn't need it.

What if he develops a change.

I know he would throw it out there a few times last year. But it wasn't on par with his slider.

He threw the change 7% of the time. 10.2 mph difference between average fastball and average change. Horizontal movement was average with the rest of the crowd, around 14.5", but the vertical drop was 23.7", 6.2" more than average. 21% more than average.

That's on a par with ... anything. That's a nice ****ing pitch and I wouldn't discard it, I'd throw it more.

I'm super appreciative to Elder for the first half he gave us last year, when Fried was out for awhile and it felt like Elder carried us at times. Right place right time. I really don't see how he makes this years opening day roster though. Has to suck for him to be an All-Star and know he'll likely begin the year in AAA.

I keep thinking Elder should be that guy that develops the ground ball specialist role or sinker pitcher that doesn’t k many but just gets you beating it into the ground

Honestly, Elder is just fine for a team like this. He can be an innings eater with 4-4.5 ERA. I mean, with this offense that's a winning formula.
