I agree. I mocked Gaetz at the time because it was very clear there wasn’t a plan. But I don’t disagree with ousting people who don’t do their job.
They never had the numbers to pull such a stunt. No strategy, which was made clear as soon as Gaetz endorsed Scalise.
McCarthy was no good. But he was at least beholden to a very slim majority and support for the job. He negotiated the 72 hour rule, which Johnson is abandoning. As well as the 1% automatic spending cuts - which Johnson is forfeiting. Not mentioning the fact that McCarthy was a force in fundraising.
Not saying Johnson is a bad guy or McCarthy is good. But there was no upgrade here. And they wounded themselves badly in the process.
