GDT 3/31/24: Braves @ Phillies - It's an Easter Sale

Maybe we need a separate thread for criticizing Snit. Otherwise it might be the only thing we talk about in GDT’s😀

Boy, the weather in Chicago is something the next 3 days. With it being no return trip, will they push it to get games in?

Bummer sucked in spring training and his first outing he melts down. He's not impressed so far.

Bummer would be way more valuable without the minimum batters faced rule. He's death on lefties but that's about the extent of his usefulness.

So you’re saying if he was used to face Marsh, Rojas and Schwarber, and was then replaced by a RHP rather than being allowed to face Turner, Bohm, JTR and Castellanos he may have been a perfectly useful contributor? Perhaps if he was utilized by a competent manager who wasn’t napping in the dugout?

His usage was weird. It was actually un-Snitker like. People usually complain about Snit being a dinosaur but the traditional wisdom today would have been to pull Bummer but Snit left him out there. It was odd.

It makes me think the organization feels Bummer has more utility than he does against right handers.

They just need to fly the boys the home...They aren't getting a game in there this week...That dump ass city is slopped with rain until Wed and then it snows....

The first week of games should take place with roofs, in the south or out west (not Denver) except for tradition-rich Cincinnati.

Having a potential of 2 or more rainouts in the first week is poor scheduling. If the White Sox have to host, make them play AL Central games or the Cubs this early where it’s easier to make up the games.

It really is amazing how consistently incompetent MLB is. It's not even like the Braves could hang around there an extra day to try to play two Thursday because the White Sox play the Royals Thursday.

All of these suggestions are too logical and obvious to actually be implemented.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to start the season a week later. Also, the next stadium that gets built in a cold weather city mandate a retractable roof. It's that simple.

This was discussed in another thread - but MLB tries really hard to gives teams who prefer July 4th over opening day that option- and they have to switch that around too. Said differently, they try to let every team have one or the other. That makes “all teams open the season in the south” unrealistic. Further, if you look around (other than Florida) we are kinda the only team down here- yes I’m fully aware of all the teams in the southwest.
