Once again, Harden's defense compromised the Rockets' efforts, especially early in the game. This comes on the heels of an 11-minute YouTube video titled "James Harden Defensive Juggernaut" that went viral over the weekend, collecting about a quarter-million views in just a few days. The video exposed Harden's serial defensive apathy this season.

Oftentimes, Sunday provided an encore. Wesley Matthews alternated between burning Harden backdoor for easy layups and posting him on the block with little resistance. And McHale was forced to switch Harden off him and hide him elsewhere.

Harden was the NBA's slowest guard in the NBA this season, according to SportVU 3D-camera tracking. He averaged just 3.6 mph this season and only 3.4 mph on the defensive end, although most players generally show tapered times on the defensive end. But numbers aren't deceiving.
 
Watch that wonderful mix of James Harden being horrible on defense. 3rd best wing player on the Thunder and possibly 4th most impactful player on the team. Worth max money? Not a chance...not to the Thunder.

Sure, the return may blow up in their faces but there was no reasonable option to keep him when you consider the whole picture and the luxury tax ramifications.
 
LOL at that video. That little "let the guy go around you and go for the back-tap" move is hilarious.. and pure laziness. Going to start implementing that in my pick up game so it can look like I'm trying hard on defense when I'm actually not.

Yeah, I don't even remember it being that bad but that is what happens when you can hide around elite/top defenders like Thabo/KD/etc....

He has long arms so he should be bale to be a better defender but like Melo he just doesn't want to.

Mark Jackson if GS is dumb enough to fire him, same for the Pacers and Vogel BUT it looks all but done that Kerr will be the next coach.

Also:

Joakim Noah will be named Defensive Player of the Year on Monday, joining Michael Jordan as the only Bulls players to ever earn the distinction.

There is a wonderful defensive mix on Russell on youtube as well.

Harden clearly tries to save himself for the offensive end. Im sure some of it is lack of other players that can score. He was in a perfect situation with the Thunder, bc he could use energy on the defensive side as well as he wasn't he primary (and maybe secondary) scorer.

If you want to see bad defense, watch Deron Williams. Oy
 
So that is a video of both offense and defense from the start of the 2012 season and its not all him falling asleep off the ball.

Harden is probably the worst defensive player in basketball. There are quite a few metrics that Westbrook is a small postive on defense andhte eye test shows it. Watch next time he goes up against Parker of CP3. Those guys can't get around him on the ball. Off the ball he takes chances and falls asleep some but its not even comparable to Harden.

I'm sure you tried real hard to find something more damning than that video. Harden was an unnecessary luxury that the Thunder flipped for future assets. It was the right move.

There are so many more fans of basketball in America and over the world its not even funny. Hockey is still a goon sport and has a minimal following. Keep thinking its this great sport that everyone should watch. The world disagrees.

Why would I care if you or the world agrees?

There is no way he had possession there when the timeout was called. I did like the no call on the Durant shot there.
