6/16 GDT: rays game 3

We were robbed of a chance for ozuna to win the game there. You should get 5 ball/strike challenges a game. They would take 5 seconds
 
They need to just give that spot to Bryce and live with it. Glav was 3-4 years in before it clicked as was Smoltz and Maddux with the Cubs. These kids they are bringing up with no innings are just automatic losses.

I think sometimes prospects need to get a taste of the majors to understand what might work in AAA isnt so effective in the majors. Now he can keep working on his flaws at AAA. I still think he ends up as a closer. Which isnt a bad thing. Add a tick of velocity to his FB coming out of the pen and it makes that and his splitter/slider more effective out pitches.

I'm sure the Braves still have plans and hopes for him as a starter, but closers are always needed. I certainly can agree with him getting this taste of the majors, absolutely. He knows what he need to improve and if he can do that with some work at Gwinnett, he'll be better prepared for the next time he's called up.

I still think he ends up as a starter, but otherwise I totally agree.
 
The biggest things for Waldrep to work on is the same things that almost every young pitcher has to learn. First is the command. He has that good fastball velocity that can go up to 97-98. But, if you don’t command it, it’s not going to be effective. So yeah, get the command worked on. Also, get better the second time through the order. Both starts, he got shelled the second time. Major League hitters will make adjustments against the youngster, so he has to learn to to adjust to those himself. If he can do those two things, he’s got a good chance to make it.

Also, wouldn’t mind seeing another pitch added to his arsenal. Maybe a slider or change up.
