I still truly find it funny that everyone is suggesting it’s some sort of novelty that prosecutors would be political when they’re elected officials that tend to run as a Democrat or Republican. That’s the whole ****ing rub, prosecutors are scum and do terrible things to citizens every day.
It is worth noting that only about a tenth of the people who breached security barriers on the Capitol grounds on January 6th have been charged with any sort of crime. And I'm ok with that exercise of prosecutorial discretion and leniency.
Odd for Bragg not to pursue these folks considering the severity and the recency of it
The Capitol is in DC. That is outside of Bragg's jurisdiction.
Prosecutors exercise discretion all the time. Fewer than a tenth of the folks who breached Capitol security lines have been charged. I'm ok with the exercise of prosecutorial discretion and leniency. What Bragg is doing is not too different. Folks who object to it around here are notably strenuous in voicing the view that the Capitol rioters are being unfairly persecucted when in fact the vast majority of them have been let off. I submit there is an inconsistency there. If you want Bragg to prosecute the Columbia protestors then surely the 9,000+ folks who breached Capitol security but have not been charged should similarly have the book thrown at them.
The discretion Bragg is exercising is not different from the discretion and leniency shown by DC prosecutors to the 9,000+ January 6 protestors who have not been charged.
The problem with charging people for going past barriers is that once the barriers are knocked down the people who come later after the barriers are down can then say that no barriers were up at the time and they would be right. Leniency has nothing to do with it.
yeah...sure the news had not reached them yet so they thought it was ok to bring their picnic baskets and have a picnic on the Capitol grounds...the weather was nice
me I just want all picnickers to be treated the same...whether in DC or NY...whether on the left or on the right
