2024 MLB Draft

Haven't watched much of any of these guys, but can Jordan play in the field? Looks like a power prospect, but his K numbers kind of put me off a bit. Like Matt, I like what I have read about Sears. I wrote last week that I hope they find a college outfielder on Day 2. Maybe not someone who screams prospect, but a solid player who can find his way to AA next year.

PS--My guess is they will have to go under slot on a few of the picks, because I think Caminiti will require a bonus amount above slot.

yeah 50.. even if someone like Tears is available, not sure the Braves could grab him.. If they did, then you are talking about under slot the rest of the way. Like you, I think Caminiti is an over slot and Holton is a slight underslot to right at slot. Someone of Tears caliber is probably an over, so the remaining ~2 million left after the 3rd round is going to go to picks 1 and 3.

Although, I could see a 17 year prep kid taking slot money... so maybe more in the coffers than we think.

Well we all thought Waldrop was going to be overslot last year and he wasn't, so who knows?

I don't imagine we will draft him given he will likely be overslot, but it seems weird that William Schmidt has dropped this far. Dude was a top 20 caliber talent according to multiple outlets.

Pick 99, Luke Skinnard, RHP Indiana. 6'8, 250 lbs.

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 55 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 55 | Overall: 40

Sinnard logged a 7.18 ERA as a Western Kentucky freshman in 2022 before transferring to Indiana and having a spectacular sophomore year. He broke an 89-year-old Hoosiers record with 114 strikeouts in 86 1/3 innings and looked like a potential second-rounder. Then he blew out his elbow in a NCAA regional start last June and had Tommy John surgery that cost him the 2024 season, though he began doing bullpen workouts for clubs in late May.

Before he got hurt, Sinnard elicited plenty of chases and empty swings with a fastball that sat at 91-93 mph and reached 96 with high spin rates and carry. Both of his breaking balls were effective, with his 78-82 mph downer curveball missing more bats and his mid-80s slider/cutter getting more chases. He sporadically showed a low-80s changeup with depth that lacked much deception.

Employing a high three-quarters arm slot with his 6-foot-8 frame, Sinnard presents an unusual look for hitters. Despite his size, he does a nice job of keeping his long limbs in sync and pounding the strike zone. If he can regain his stuff and refine his command, he could develop into a mid-rotation starter.

Big frame. Live arm. Looks like his stock was increasing prior to TJS. IF he comes under slot, I really like this pick. Though obviously I would have preferred a hitter.

more my feel.. Seems they always draft these 'if' pitchers.. I wouldn't mind a few 'if' hitters at this point.
