GDT 8/11 Schwell Sunday Afternoon Lineup: Bombs Away

Gets weird then... is kelenic the 4th OF and soler to LF?

Kelenic will be cheap next year, so he could be traded or just kept at a 4th outfielder that should play 3 times a week versus a RHP. Give Acuna days off.. give Soler days off, give Harris days off.. give Ozuna days off playing for Soler who would be DH... It is quite all right to have 4 good OF (if Kelenic is good).. Hopefully Twit will retire and someone who understand load management and playing your bench will be hired.

I wouldn't mind the team picking up a good SS this off season as well and make Arcia the utility infielder. He can probably play a good 3rd, 2nd and clearly SS.. He can also play 3ish times a week to spell guys.

then murphy, tda, and or Baldwin (whoever the catching group is) should be getting reps at 1st as well as ozuna to also get Murphy days off and keep the bench guys playing more.

this is not a hard concept and clearly a weakness for this team when you saw the rash of injuries. Sure, it is impossible to cover that many.. but when one outfielder goes down and you have to get Sorryio to 'help'... then you did a ****ty job of being prepared.

We have the 2nd best bullpen in the 7th-9th innings behind Cleveland. This game sucked, but hopefully a blip on the radar.

I think the OF works fine, but the Acuña issue is the bigger one for me. He should be the DH for a couple games a week. If ozuna is here, how can you do that?

Ozuna standing in LF for 30-40 games per year isn't going to kill the team, provided he continues to hit at a level anywhere near what he's done this year.

I think it's just 2 IFs... if Harris is back and his normal self, and if sale and fried are healthy, this team could be a handful in a playoff series. If I'm the brewers, I want no part of the braves in the WC round.

If Braves sneak in, a best of 3 vs Lopez, Sale, Fried would be a problem. Just dont know if they're gonna hit. But if they get Albies/Harris back, that lineup is as good as any. Soler is starting to hit now too. I do think it's more of a lost season for the Braves but the NL is still there for the taking.

More likely, no ozuna, and Acuna/soler split time in RF imo

Ozuna makes like 16 or 18M next year. He's hitting at a MVP level, you dont get rid of that. You find a way to get all of Acuna, Kelenic, Harris, Soler, Ozuna enough AB's. Having alot of really good players is a good problem to have.

I doubt they will put Ozuna in the OF next year if they didn't even try it this year. I think it will be Acuna in RF or LF with days off baked in as he builds his knee back up. He might dh some.. but probably not a lot. since it is a different knee and he had an MVP season on one knee that was repaired, I suspect they will assume he is fine with two repaired knees. I do think that is the end of his 30+ stolen bases.. He needs to be a force on the bases, but only as a 3rd to first or scoring on a single type guy...

Or twit will be back next year and demand he works on stolen bases in spring training.

not sure if I can go find it.. but there was a video of Sale talking after his start and his shirt was priceless. had an angry baseball on it and said resting pitch face.. I don't know the story behind it really, but I would assume it is how he has been handled and babied with all the 'rest' that hasn't really helped keep our pitchers healthy.

Looks like the Minter injury is going to save Luke Jackson. I don’t understand the infatuation with him.

For now.. still have to see what happens when Lopez comes off DL and also have Hernandez down in AAA having better stuff than Chavez and Jackson. If this team is serious about winning, then they need to field the best team even if that means hurting some feelings and losing some player flexibility.

The Braves are very close to being in the position where resting players for October isn't going to matter if they aren't playing in October. Sending Sale home at 100% after missing the playoffs isn't exactly a valuable strategy.

At some point a sense of urgency has to sweep over this team. It's hard to explain, but it feels like the entire team just goes into sleepwalk mode and never snaps out of it until the L is final.

Hit a bomb or lose, oh well.

Yep. Its about the time when resting guys is done. Missing the playoffs just to keep them healthy is pointless.
