He seems to hold the view that immigrants take away "American jobs." It is as wrong-headed as can be. Americans benefit greatly from immigration, both of skilled and less skilled people (the ones who mow our lawns, fix our roofs, take care of our children, and make and serve the food at our favorite restaurants).
The Trump administration made strenuous efforts to reduce immigration. They accelerated their efforts in 2020 under the guise of protecting Americans during covid. Before covid, their efforts were under the guise of enhanced vetting, which in fact had little to do with safety and everything to do with reducing the numbers. And of course, his rhetoric has been xenophobic and racist. The expression of preference for people who look like Norwegians over those with a darker skin pigmentation from "****hole countries" being just one example.

Serious question for you: what the **** do you think happens to the economy when you crater the low-wage labor supply and American citizens refuse to do the same work for that wage? Because Economics would teach you that either production will drop, leading to shortages, or the cost of labor will go up, increasing prices. Which one of these outcomes are you hoping for?
We would generally agree on this, but it requires a *massive* investment in the legal immigration process to speed it up and goes against thethe’s argument that we don’t need competition for low-wage labor.
I would also argue there should be a more well-defined and accessible path to citizenship if we are willing to say these folks are providing value to American communities through their presence here.
