Man it doesn't matter where you get players, just that you get em. The minute difference in 3 rounds doesnt equate to anything if you miss out on a guy you like.

I, by no means, is a draft expert.. but I disagree. If I take a guy in the 4th round that would have been there in the 6th round and thus didn't draft a true 4th round talent, then I am getting basically 2 6th round talents.. So if the Braves would have grabbed a guy in the 4th round that was say in the top 150, then this kid in the 6th... well it is better players over all.

Now I have already said I hope I eat crow and he pans out.. but I don't think you can say it doesn't matter where you draft kids. I mean he was ranked in one ranking and it was 419th best player.. I have a pretty good feeling he would have been there in later rounds.

That stuff is notoriously innaccurate and people get taken outside the top 400 all the time. Including in the 4th round.

You are describing a perfect draft as if you know where everyone will be taken and how everyone rates all of the prospects.

That doesn't occur in reality.

Most of them don't pan out anyway.

For sure, I don't blame you for feeling that way. Not trying to sell him as a future stud or anything, just that I'm open to be optimistic with him just because how bad the Miami staff is.
 
Carter Holton who’s only 5”11 is starting tonight. It’s kind of interesting they took 2 “short” lefties whose plus pitch is a slider in the first 4 rounds.

I’m hoping there’s some data behind the decisions.

me too.. you just don't see many short pitchers in the league so I don't know. maybe lefty is greater than being tall.. Will be interesting to follow.
 
For some unknown reason, being short for an LHP is less of a perceived disadvantage than it is for a short RHP. Maybe it depends on their array of pitches, but it has always seemed to be that way going way back. I was surprised that Hernandez wasn't further underslot, but they scouted him and obviously liked him. If they had taken him later, they likely would have had to move money toward him and go above slot. As it was, they were able to use that bit of savings elsewhere (most notably Montgomery and Bagwell).
 
Hackenberg went 6.0 innings and only gave up 1 ER for his first AAA start… but he also walked 5 and only struckout 1. Hopefully just some nerves.

Well....there are are interesting storylines to be sure. But the hitting will leave you...in awe. Not in a good way. The pitching has been a mixed bag but the good performances are really good. We're starting to see more at each level which is a win. Despite some of the international performances, I still see something in a few of the players. Agree though Huddy...excited for a few.

Seeing AA play at the top of the international market every year should pan out a few big time guys eventually.
